According to Renault Russia, the company's customers want "all at once."

For them, a new cross-coupe Renault Arkana was created. The manufacturer is sure: this car is able not only to successfully compete with representatives of segment C, but also to destroy stereotypes associated with the segment and become a trendsetter in it.

Whether this will work out, time will tell, but for now, we will find out what Arkana is.

Is it new?

Renault designers managed to create a completely new car visually, thanks in large part to the increased wheelbase. Take a look at Arkana and Duster in profile. What is common in their appearance? Almost nothing.

Duster gave Arkana only the exterior mirror housings. True, such cases are placed on new Dusters, which are not yet in Russia, and the filling in them at Arkana is completely different.

Speaking of stuffing. Of course, some elements of the new car are borrowed from their predecessors. Arkana grew out of the Global Access platform, into which the B0 had evolved, but today it is extremely difficult to find a car built from scratch. Continuity is a common practice of manufacturers. At the same time, 55% of all chassis parts in Renault Arkana are new. And in the case of the engine, this percentage is even higher.

All problems of Renault engines - expert analysis “Behind the wheel”

A large and heavy hood with noise insulation and gas stops hides a rather interesting pair underneath - a 1.3 liter turbo engine in combination with a CVT.

The engine, developed jointly with Daimler, has a volume of 1333 cm³ and a power of 149.6 hp. - exactly under the tax-lathing bar. A similar engine on the Arkan in the Edition One version is first combined with the Jatco JF016e variator.

How the designers managed to connect two peculiar devices, it remains to be determined only empirically. Engineers themselves say that the small turbo engine is not inferior in reliability to a 2-liter aspirated. For now, let us take a word, and then we'll see how Renault Arkana will travel in our country on Russian gasoline.

What to refuel?

The filler neck opens from the passenger compartment. There is a sticker on the gas tank flap informing you that you need to refuel Renault Arkana with 95th or 98th gasoline. This should not be scary - the only question is homologation. Developers both in Russia and in France say that the engine is designed for 92nd gasoline and soon the car will be homologated for it. And to refuel the 92nd it is possible and necessary now.

Where to push and twist?

The interior design of the Renault Arkana is pleasant and thoughtful.

Under the multimedia display there are very convenient buttons you need, among them those that include seat heating. We have been waiting for this for many years. In other Renault models, these buttons are located at the end of the front seats.

Heating, by the way, is two-stage (for rear passengers it is one-stage).

Below is the climate control unit. In the car, the steering wheel, outside rear-view mirrors, rear and windshields and even washer nozzles are heated, which is optimal in Russian conditions.

Under climate control, two power USB sockets and a 12V socket were located.

The steering wheel on the Arkan for the first time among all Renault cars manufactured in Russia is regulated not only by the angle of inclination, but also by the departure! The dashboard is classic, with odd digital dials and an abundance of distracting risks. In the middle is the trip computer display.

The CVT control selector is located right at hand, in the right place. The transmission control unit is familiar to Renault fans. On cars in the top trim levels is a Bose audio system. From the pleasant, we also note that the door closes the entire threshold, and there is a sealant on the bottom. This means that the threshold will remain absolutely clean, which is ideal in our conditions.

What can?

Renault Arkana, equipped with an electronic key, meets and escorts the owner. It is enough to approach the car, and it will signal, turn on the turn signals and LED running lights. The lights on the back and the LED red stripe combining them light up. As soon as you move away from Arcana, she says goodbye, turning off all the light.

Renault Arkana in the top configuration is equipped with a large touchscreen with a navigator. In the future, Yandex. Auto will appear in the car. Already there is an autostart engine and electronic assistants. Thus, the blind spot monitoring system helps the driver with the help of sensors built into the outside rear-view mirrors and hazard warning lights.

How much will fit?

Renault Arkana has a rather deep and not very high trunk with an impressive loading area. The boot volume of all-wheel drive vehicles is 409 liters under the curtain. Front-wheel drive with a conventional beam at the rear - 508 liters. The rear seats fold, forming an almost flat floor, so that large items can be transported in the car.

The car is shod in 17-inch wheels, but there is a spare wheel with a landing diameter of 16 inches under the boot floor. In this case, the outer diameter of the spare wheel is exactly the same as that of the other wheels of the machine. The only difference is that the reserve is 10 mm narrower. That is why it has the status of a temporary wheel. Around a plastic pencil case, where tools, gloves, rags, etc. are usually put. The trunk has a backlight. On the sides are soft plugs. On the right behind one of them is a subwoofer, on the left are a jack, a balloon key and a towing eye.

The second row is spacious. Even tall passengers will sit so that their knees do not touch the back of the front seat, and their head does not touch the ceiling. By the way, the backs of the front seats are soft, and the central tunnel is low.

What are you wearing?

Native tires for the Arcana - Bridgestone Dueler H / T (215/60 R17). All tests of the car were carried out on them. Renault Arkana in the top configuration rides on alloy wheels, cars will have simpler caps that mimic such wheels.

Since the conversation turned to wheels, it’s a sin not to mention that Arkana has drum brakes on the back. In theory, they are cheaper and more reliable in our conditions. The manufacturer promises that versions with disc brakes will soon appear. But there is a suspicion that this will not fundamentally change the operation of the brakes, and the pads will wear out faster.

How does it ride?

On passability Arkana, of course, is not Duster: its wheelbase is longer, the overhangs are slightly larger. But the all-wheel drive transmission in combination with a decent clearance, metal protection of the power unit, sufficiently large angles of exit and entry gives the car the full right to claim the title of a universal car.

The variator imitates the operation of an automatic hydromechanical gearbox. In a calm movement, the gears are not felt at all, with a dynamic driving, the variator starts sorting through virtual gears, instilling a sporting spirit into the car.
