1. Overheating of the engine. This is more often encountered in the summer, but you can overheat the motor in the winter if the thermostat is faulty or the pump drive breaks down. Watch the technical condition of the engine. In summer, check that the cooling radiator is clean. Insects, dirt and dust, which are enough on the roads, are packed in its honeycombs. The engine radiator is contaminated not only from the outside: rust and scale particles, as well as oxidation products of aluminum parts, often accumulate in its tanks. And if you are thinking about flushing the radiator from the outside, it makes sense to combine it with replacing the coolant.

Overheating is dangerous because in the worst case it can jam the engine, and your trip will end there, and overhaul will fly into a pretty penny. High-quality modern engine oil can also prevent jamming.

2. Insufficient engine warming in winter due to short runs is no less dangerous. When during the trip the engine does not have time to warm up to operating temperature, another problem arises - an emulsion appears in it. Simply put, water gets into the oil. As a result, oil oxidation processes are more intense and faster. As a result, a reduction in engine life, the formation of deposits on the piston and piston rings.

In an unheated engine, the gaps between the piston and cylinder are increased, due to which a large amount of exhaust gas is passed into the crankcase. In addition to water, the products of fuel combustion enter the oil. What to do: warm up the engine, put protection in front of the radiator and monitor the temperature of the coolant. Motor oils with antioxidant additives can reduce the undesirable effect of traveling on a cold engine.

3. Riding an overloaded car. This is mainly affected by summer residents, when the whole family is stuffed into the car and, in order to attach the entire belongings to the roof, you have to climb onto a stool.

It is not surprising that when starting off, it smells of a singed clutch. To disperse such a machine, you have to spin the engine under the accompaniment of detonation knocks. In this mode, the motor will not last long. But good engine oil can prevent the problem. There are oils that can protect the loaded parts of the crank mechanism and piston group cylinder in such harsh operating conditions.

One of them is Motul 8100 X-cess 5W30. The innovative micellar thickener used in its basis provides the necessary stability of oil viscosity, preventing oil starvation.

Of course, the best way to solve the problem is to leave the mother-in-law at home and consult the data on the permissible load in the car manual.

4. Sulfur compounds in the fuel. They are deadly to the engines of modern cars.

According to a study by the Russian Quality System (Roskachestvo) and the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) from 2018, the most common violations at gas stations in Russia related to the quality of automobile fuel are: exceeding the permissible sulfur content, as well as exceeding the permissible concentration of oxygenates - substances due to which they increase the octane number of low-quality fuel. For example, tetraethyl lead, due to which gas is called leaded, and which is prohibited for use by all modern automakers.

Sulfur is terrible because in the combustion chamber it is oxidized to the form of sulfuric acid. And acid is acid, especially if it is sulfuric. It is possible to actively neutralize it by the previously mentioned Motul 8100 X-cess 5W30 oil, in which the concentration of detergent-dispersant additives is increased. Well, of course, you should not refuel at dubious gas stations.

5. Riding on fuel with the wrong octane rating. This happens in the outback when there is no other fuel at the gas station. So you fill in the AI-92 tank instead of the ninety-fifth.

As a one-time phenomenon this can take place. However, if someone thinks that the higher the octane number, the better the motor will be - it is mistaken. Filling AI-98 instead of the laid AI-92, you not only spend more money on fuel, but also risk burnout of valves, for example.

6. City hours of traffic jams. They systematically undermine engine health. One of the problems is that the odometer mileage ceases to correspond to the accumulated life of the internal combustion engine by engine hours. Roughly speaking, the engine runs longer than it would work with a similar average mileage. Often in such cases, the automaker recommends changing the oil twice as often as prescribed by the regulation. Someone is betting on using high-performance, modern lubricants.

7. Long-term operation at idle - with it, fuel enters the engine crankcase, similar to how it happens when the engine is not warm enough. As a result, the viscosity of the oil decreases, the bearing capacity of the oil film decreases, and the wear of the rubbing parts is accelerated. Note that this is one of the consequences of traffic jams.
