According to order No. 555 st of Rosstandart, from January 1, 2019, the new GOST R 50577–2018 “State Registration Vehicle Signs” comes into force. Types and main sizes. Technical Requirements”in exchange for the 1993 GOST model, already pretty battered by time. This document, as it turned out, contains a lot of interesting things. In particular, there will be a whole scattering of license plates of an unusual format, made to please the owners of foreign equipment. And not only!
Ordeals
More is not always better. This will tell you any biker who at least once had to mount a domestic license plate on a foreign motorcycle. On two-wheeled foreign cars, in most cases, the platform for the number is designed for a plate much smaller than they are issued in the MREO. You can’t drill a number, even if you really want to. We have to invent adapters and do other technical work in order to add a tin to a bike. At the same time, aesthetics suffers to a certain extent, which is especially painful for motorcyclists.
Owners of cars brought from America or Japan experience similar difficulties: in these countries, license plates of a “more square" shape have historically been used, and therefore our European standard plates (520 × 112 mm) sometimes cannot be put up to a regular place at all. The adapter is also not a panacea: the established license plate number can block the rear optics, not to mention the fact that you still have to somehow "collective farm" the backlight for it.
Such large plates, as on this Honda, will not be anymore from the new year: all motor numbers are switching to a reduced format. However, the size of the new labels will still be slightly different from Japanese and American standards. Russian car numbers: from cabs to modern cars
Ahead of the miserable is a new, more convenient era. Let's start with the owners of the "right-handed" Japanese cars and American cars. Rejoice, gentlemen, now when you register, you can get a sign that has every chance to fit into the regular place for the number - we are talking about “tins” that are installed on the car at the back. The new standard implies a sign with a size of 290 × 170 mm - in theory, it should just fit the parameters of gray import. And with a margin, since both the "Japanese" and the "Americans" the size of the number plates is even slightly larger than the new Russian ones: 330 × 165 mm and 305 × 160 mm, respectively. The number (that is, the actual set of letters and numbers) of the vehicles will be assigned to the traffic police, and the production of “glands” will be entrusted to certified organizations - now that they have the right to make duplicates of lost signs.
Motorcyclists also did not stand aside from the reform. Signs of a reduced size of 190 × 145 mm were prepared for them (formerly 245 × 160 mm). For comparison: in Japan 230 × 125 mm plates are hung on motorcycles, in the States - 180 × 100 mm. In any case, it will become clearly better than it was.
By the way, you won’t have to choose a “tin” of suitable size: in the new GOST, there are no signs left of large license plates of the old format. But we will not shed tears on them, right?
Many owners of the "Americans" in every way improvise, trying to fit the "European" numbers on their cars. It is not always possible to do this elegantly. Also transport
In a still fresh (one might even say a little crude) GOST, other signs were noted. For example, license plate number for "off-road vehicles not intended for use on public roads", this technique mainly means ATVs and snowmobiles, which from the point of view of officials are more likely tractors and therefore are registered with Gostekhnadzor. Regznaki on them will also be reduced - by analogy with a motorcycle. From the latter, they should differ in the arrangement of letters and numbers. The same applies to special signs for mopeds, which are now also provided for by the new GOST. True, what should be considered a moped is not yet completely clear: either we are talking only about maxi scooters with sufficiently cubic motors (more than 50 cm³), or all motor equipment that does not fit the definition of “motorcycle” is combed under one comb. Let's wait - we'll find out.

666, AAA, USAID and other "beautiful" numbers - where did they come from
There is no clear understanding of who is addressed to two more categories of license plates that have developed GOST 2018. “Classic (retro) and sports vehicles” are highlighted in a separate group. In terms of meaning, it is generally clear what is at stake. But from the point of view of the Rules of the Road - and indeed the laws of the Russian Federation - such vehicles do not exist in our nature. Everything that can be construed as an old timer by a clear mind is legally an ordinary car. And the equipment for sports is either already registered and therefore legally almost clean, or does not have a permit for driving on public roads. It is understandable why: any change in design is illegitimate - therefore, such a machine cannot be registered. It is so? That's exactly what. It turns out that GOST runs ahead of legislation.
One can only guess why such special numbers are needed in the future and in principle. Perhaps for classic cars they will make some indulgences in terms of emission standards (say, they will allow entry into areas with a limit on the ecological class) - but at the same time they will come up with other restrictions. As for sports cars, here we can talk about the admission of "sports equipment" to public roads in the framework of individual competitions - rally raids, for example.
And yet, in general, the introduction of the new GOST can only be welcomed: it appears that there will obviously be benefits from it, but there seems to be no harm. Happy you!
Anton Shaparin, vice president of the National Automobile Union Anton Shaparin, vice president of the National Automobile Union OpinionThe introduction of a new standard will simplify life for at least 8% of Russian car owners who drive right-hand drive cars and cars imported from the United States. The legal gap is also being eliminated: seriously modified sports cars often cannot be registered with the traffic police, as they may not comply with the TR CU 018/2011 standards, and without registration they cannot be used in the Russian Federation. Now we have to develop criteria for issuing sports numbers for them. But new numbers for classic cars are a noticeable risk, as owners of oldtimers may face restrictions on the operation of their cars. The rules for issuing such numbers have not yet been determined. |
