In a number of countries, officials also track consumption - and sometimes factories have to “answer for the bazaar”. In particular, Hyundai and Kia, Mitsubishi and Suzuki visited the dock (by the way, Russia never had any complaints against them). And the expense for which they suffered was identified in laboratory conditions and is unattainable in actual operation.

But the Belgian environmental organization Transport & Environment conducted lengthy studies and found that the difference between factory data on average fuel consumption and real consumption from 2001 to 2013 increased from 8 to 31 percent. Four times! Among the world leaders in “data unreality” are BMW, Ford, GM, Volkswagen, Renault, Fiat, Peugeot / Citroen and Toyota. And the well-respected Mercedes-Benz led the standings with a result of almost 40%.

Those who carefully read our articles should inevitably notice: the results obtained when measuring the volume of luggage by the editorial staff never coincide with the factory ones! How is that?

Factories use different measurement techniques. In Europe, the VDA system has been adopted: the trunk is filled with bars of 200x100x50 mm in size (the volume of such a bar is 1 l). Of course, very carefully and rationally, trying to fill the maximum amount. The American SAE system provides for filling the trunk with objects, shape and volume that imitate ordinary suitcases, boxes, golf bags, etc. It is clear that the smaller the parrots, the fuller the boa constriction will fill up - there will be less unused gaps.

For many years the editors have been using an intermediate version, borrowed from the NITSIAMT training ground: bars of a fixed volume of 4 and 8 liters, but different in shape. Of course, our luggage racks come out slightly less than those measured by VDA - this is logical.
