In our country, the Hyundai HD78 with a carrying capacity of 4.6 tons has been an absolute bestseller in the segment of medium-tonnage trucks of foreign cars for many years. Other hits are the Hyundai Porter, which takes almost a ton, and its successor Hyundai Porter II H100. And between them - a niche of one and a half, in which henceforth Hyundai HD35 plays.
Modular approach
HD35 assembled at the Avtotor Kaliningrad plant. A quick glance to understand: this is a small copy of the Hyundai HD65 / HD78. The cabin is the same, except perhaps narrower (1760 mm). The three of us can ride, but not far and not in winter. It is believed that on a truck with a narrow cab it is more convenient to maneuver in tight streets, although the width of the body can be 2.2 or 2.4 meters.

Wheel fastening - on five hairpins, without futorok. The rear wheels are attracted only by cunning conical nuts. As the operating experience shows, such mounting of the “pair” does not cause any problems. Wheel fastening - on five hairpins, without futorok. It is easy to climb into the cab: the doors are large and open wide, the cab floor is not high, and the trellised step is exactly where it should be. This is important for a short-shoulder delivery truck. But the length of the cabin is small. A driver above 185 cm will not immediately get behind the wheel, although there is a seat adjustment, and a steering column with a mechanical collet is adjustable in height and angle, albeit within relatively narrow limits.
The pedal unit is arranged very tightly, not under a large foot. Usually, many "Chinese" and "Japanese" fold the back of the middle seat - it turns out a comfortable table, but the HD35 is deprived of this option. The seat upholstery is in faux leather. The door windows are equipped with electric lifts, and the doors themselves are equipped with reliable gaskets and softly working locks.
Hyundai HD35 gives a three-year warranty with a mileage of not more than 60, 000 km
Under the microscope
And the rest of the lorry is a smaller Hyundai HD65 or HD78: it has a full frame, dependent front suspension and dual rear wheels. Apparently, it is designed to work with overload. The frame side members are more massive than many competitors: 183 mm high, with a shelf of 60 mm and a thickness of 6 mm! Open stamped channels are less afraid of corrosion than a frame with closed spars in the form of a rectangular pipe.
There are two options for the wheelbase: 2850 and 3415 millimeters. But in Russia, for the installation of an on-board platform or van up to 6.2 meters long, you can increase the base according to the "Nizhny Novgorod patent" - insertion into the side members and lengthening the rear overhang.
The power steering wheel is lightweight with a screw and nut mechanism. Brakes - disc in a circle, with ventilated discs, floating brackets and wear indicators. Parking brake - transmission: the drum is mounted on the secondary shaft of the box. Repair is simple: you need to unscrew the four bolts of the driveshaft, two bolts at the outboard bearing - and remove the brake drum. Beauty!

The cab has Japanese roots: the base is the Isuzu Elf N series cab. The same is installed on Nissan Atlas H series cars and Nissan Diesel Condor, Mazda Titan, on the “Chinese” Xinkai Light Truck, BAW Qiling and BAW Qilong, as well as on BAW Fenix Ulyanovsk assembly and Taganrog TagAZ Master. 100 kilowatt unit
With all the variety of engines from Hyundai, a four-cylinder in-line 2.5-liter D4CD diesel engine, well known for Porter, Starex and Kia Sorento models, was installed on the HD35 lorry. It has different versions - the atmospheric 116 is strong and turbocharged, with a capacity of 136 or 170 hp, but on the HD35 they put only the middle version: 136 hp, 294 Nm at 1500-3000 rpm. For comparison: the GAZ 53 gasoline engine with a working volume of 4.25 liters had the same torque - on a machine with a lifting capacity of 4–4.5 tons! “Korean” turned out to be frisky, but economical - that’s what turbocharging and intercooler give. The motor originates from the Mitsubishi 4D56 diesel engine, which was used on all-wheel drive minibuses Mitsubishi Delica (L300 and L400) and Mitsubishi Space Gear. Two balancing shafts - a typical Mitsubishi solution that eliminates the vibrations that are inherent in the “fours” at idle. Two camshafts (located in the head), four valves per cylinder. Front timing belt - chain. There are two more circuits: one operates on the drive of the oil pump and the right balancer shaft, and the other on the drive of the left balancer shaft and the high-pressure pump. Three chain tensioners, they are mechanical - with a simple spring. The timing chain is more reliable than the timing belt, and this is important for a diesel engine. Valves have hydraulic compensators. Dry sleeves are installed in the cast-iron cylinder block - this is rare for small diesels.

In terms of fuel consumption, the “Korean” is comparable to our diesel GAZelle. The frequency of changing the oil in the engine is 15 thousand kilometers. The Euro 5 engine has a common rail fuel rail, an EGR system (with a liquid heat exchanger) and a regenerative particulate filter.
The gear ratios in the transmission are selected so that even the loaded HD35 easily accelerates to hundreds, and the maximum speed is 137 km / h.
Transmission - five-speed, with a fifth boost (0.74 gear ratio). The gears switch easily and clearly, without rattle gears. On the cast-iron crankcase there is a hatch for installing a power take-off for driving add-on hydraulic pumps. Mounting a hydraulic manipulator or a tow truck superstructure on an HD35 chassis will probably be easier than on a Gazelle. You can make a small dump truck or container ship to work in the city. The HD35 chassis does not go on sale, only cars that are already equipped with add-ons are sold. Most often these are airborne platforms (1, 992, 000 rubles), manufactured goods vans (1, 995, 000 rubles) and isothermal vans (2, 017, 000 rubles). Manufacturers of add-ons are different, but they keep prices reasonable. Let's see how customers react.
