In 2007, the last generation Fiesta debuted. During this time, it was updated several times, but the foundation remained the same. The fresh Russian version debuted at the Moscow International Motor Show - 2014, and the next year it began to be assembled at the Ford plant in Naberezhnye Chelny. It's time to see what Fiesta is doing on its own.
Maintainability we evaluate in points. They correspond to the total standard hours (according to the official schedule) spent on certain operations.
Inherited technique
Under the hood lives the atmospheric Duratec 1.6 Ti-VCT gasoline engine. It is available in three boost options: 85, 105 and 120 hp. The engines are identical in hardware and differ only in software versions. Duratec 1.6 is known for its reliability in the second generation Focus. Since October 2015, Russian-made motors have been installed on the Fiesta.
With engine maintenance, as before, there are difficulties. To replace the timing belt, a special tool is needed to align the marks on the shafts. Attempting to do this with improvised means can lead to pistons meeting the valves and serious repairs. The belt replacement interval is 120, 000 km or eight years.

The tensioner was not added to the attachment belt drive. When replacing, the old element is cut off, and the new one is put on using a special mandrel or unscrew and slightly shift the generator. Both methods are laborious. And the latter option is also unsafe - when spinning the generator with the belt on, there is a great risk of breaking the threads of the mounts. It is good that it is not necessary to change the hinged belt - simultaneously with the timing drive. In addition, he honestly takes care of this term. On machines without air conditioning, a bypass roller is installed in place of the compressor. And the hinged belt is shorter.
Antifreeze is changed every ten years. Alas, the Fiesta was deprived of a drain plug, which is provided, for example, on the same Focus of the last generation. Therefore, you have to remove the lower radiator pipe - good, it is conveniently located. In addition, neither crankcase protection nor plastic mudguards are installed on the Fiesta. It’s strange, because many models designed for our market have full metal protection.
A five-speed manual gearbox migrated from the third Focus unchanged. Oil is filled for the entire service life of the box, but during some work it has to be drained. And the drain plug is virtually absent. The sump is emptied through a gear selector bolt that is disposable. The filler plug is located on the front of the box under the plastic casing. Its perimeter lid is fixed on latches, it is very inconvenient to release them due to tightness.

The PowerShift dual-clutch robotic gearbox was also inherited from Focus. The regulation does not provide for the replacement of oil in the unit. However, the manufacturer took care of the technological holes for draining and filling the oil. True, the jellied is not very well located, access to it is difficult.
Replacing the battery is very simple. On top of it is fixed a metal bar, which is mounted on two studs with nuts “10” - no brittle plastic covers, as in Focus.
The fuel filter is integrated in the gas pump located in the tank and is not available as a separate spare part - replacement is complete. Alas, for this, as in Focus, you will have to remove the gas tank.
The cabin filter is located in the heater module on the front passenger side. To access it, first remove the side trim of the center console, fixed around the perimeter on simple latches and one piston. Next, dismantle the soft pad under the glove compartment, which holds a pair of pistons. The filter cover is fixed on two T20 torx screws. The element is changed at each MOT.
The engine compartment fuse box is located in front of the left suspension strut cup. Its cover is fixed on the latch in front and on the eyelet in the back. Alas, the unit is deprived of spare fuses and circuit designations. However, like the salon unit, which is installed behind the glove compartment. To access it, squeeze the walls of the glove compartment to remove the stops from the opening, and completely fold it.
The braking mechanisms are the same for all modifications of the Russian Fiesta - disc brakes of the same size in front and drum in the back. When replacing pads with pitfalls you will not come across. The front calipers are bolted “12”, antiskrip plates are installed in the guide brackets. Inspection windows are provided in the drum shields on the inside to assess the wear of the pads. The fittings for pumping the system are conveniently located. Brake fluid change - every two years.
Carcass light
Turn signal lamps are installed in the corners of the headlights, closer to the grille. The cartridges (fixed by turning) have a convenient tail section, so changing the lamps is easy. Running and marker lights - LED. Because of one burned out element, you will have to buy a headlamp assembly.
The dipped and main beam sections are located in separate wells covered by rubber covers. Access to the right headlight is convenient, but the high neck of the washer reservoir and the fuse box interfere with replacing the lamps on the left. To make it easier to get close, remove the lid from the unit, and slightly divert the neck to the side. The lamp mounts are intricate, therefore, to understand, it is better to first see how everything looks on the right headlight.
If you can’t crawl up to the lamps, you will have to remove the headlight. From above it is fixed with two bolts under the T30 torx and one piston on the bumper. From below it is fixed by a large latch. To get the headlight out of this gearing, we slip both hands under it from under the wing as close to the bumper as possible and tear it off the mounts. Naturally, this can not be done in the cold, if you do not want to break a fragile plastic. Next, carefully display the headlight from all the protrusions of the bumper and wing. When installing, we start the corner of the headlight under the bumper, then the middle part with protrusions, and then its outer corner under the wing. When the headlamp has risen along all the upper mounts, we press on it from above to snap the lower connector.
You can get to the lamps of the front foglights from below, from under the bumper, or from the side - through the fenders with the wheels turned out. There is plenty of free space on the right, and left access limits the washer reservoir. To remove the wing flaps, we unscrew a couple of screws under a Phillips screwdriver or T30 torx.
Both the sedan and the hatchback in the rear lighting have an additional brake light - LED. If it burns out, you have to shell out the lantern assembly. In the remaining sections, lamps are installed, but to replace them, you need to remove the lights.
To get to the internal fastening of the lantern mounted on the wing of the sedan, we bend the luggage compartment trim. To do this, take out two of the pistons closest to the edges. We pull the flashlight towards ourselves, and then we take it sideways to disengage its transverse lock. However, you do not have to make big efforts. When installing, first insert the front mount of the flashlight, and then start the side lock.
For flashlights located on the trunk lid of the sedan, the developers also did not provide technological windows to facilitate removal. We have to completely dismantle the inner lining and fight with the intricate mountings of the lights. To crawl to the internal fixtures of the lights on the hatchback, it is necessary to partially remove and bend the skin. This operation is more time consuming than on a sedan.
TOTAL Fiesta scored 14.5 points - an indicator worse than the current Focus. In addition to the difficulties inherited from the older brother with replacing the engine belts in the Fiesta, for example, it is more difficult to change the lamps in the front and rear lighting. The representative of class B was more capricious than a larger relative - this is an atypical picture.
