Well, again! The most interesting is ahead, but I am persistently asked to leave the camera in a storage room. The usual thing in the workshops of racing stables. A museum, a hall, a conference room, marketers and a buffet are all good for your health. But as soon as you approach the glands - stop! The veil of secrecy.
To say that I am upset is to say nothing. Because this time I was banned from shooting in the new Audi Sport center.
The complex is large, located in Neuburg, built in a couple of years. Opened last fall. The area is 47 hectares, it has its own track with a length of 3400 meters and a platform for emergency response training. Here is now the headquarters of Audi Sport, assembly shops and a driving center for Audi driving experience. That is, factory athletes and all who are “about sports” are gathered in one place. A reasonable question arises: what is the priority - marketing, research or production?

Clarity comes when you get inside. Here is a spacious hall where Audi R18 e tron quattro sport prototypes are assembled for the legendary Le Mans marathon and other stages of the WEC endurance series. Nearby is the workshop in which the Audi RS 5 DTM for German Touring is born.
Conveyor? God forbid! The work is piece, and therefore the assembly is on guard.

Nearby is a laboratory with two motor stands - for gasoline and diesel engines. More precisely, for power units: the motors are tested here assembled with gearboxes. Engineers and designers work literally behind the next door. A little further - the engine shop.
And there is also a warehouse where racing components flock from all over the world. The first thing that caught my eye was the carbon fiber monocoque of the R18 sportprototype weighing only 120 kg. It turns out he was made in Italy.
So, the new center is the assembly production of Audi racing, concentrated in one place. It is located just twenty kilometers from the main conveyor Audi, which is in Ingolstadt.
In the near future, the client division of Audi Sport customer racing will also move here. Here they will deal with the second-generation R8 LMS super coupe - a car for client teams participating in numerous Gran Turismo races. Another destination is the Audi Sport TT Cup Mono Cup Coupe, which will debut this year as a DTM support race.

The test track is not a traditional factory oval, but a winding track. On it, the fireballs assembled here will take their first steps in combat mode. There is even a site that mimics a fragment of the pit lane of a race track: a track, boxing gates, fuel hoses - you can rehearse a refueling of a sport prototype during a long race or changing wheels at a DTM pit stop.
