The Soviet auto industry has been heading towards a full-fledged training ground for more than 40 years. The first test tractor station NAMI appeared in 1923. And in February 1931, the institute renamed NATI opened a small testing laboratory in the villages of Mashkino and Sokolovo, near the Khimki railway station (this is near Moscow). GAZ already worked in the USSR, reconstruction of AMO was completed. The country needed a variety of machines that had to be designed, tested and brought to accepted standards. For only one warm season - from April to October - in Mashkin-Sokolov, Ford-A and Ford-AA vehicles were successfully tested. However, the first station did not last a year. Its closure was explained by its excessive proximity to the capital.

The design assignment for a full-fledged training ground was born only in 1936. Alas, things didn’t go beyond paper plans. A decade later, already in the post-war 1947, the obsolete task was finalized: an extensive road complex appeared in the plan, including express and mountain roads, as well as climbs of different steepness. Another decade and a half passed …

The place for construction (70 km from Moscow) was not chosen by chance: the perfect combination of the hills of the Klinsko-Dmitrov Ridge and flat plots allowed on an area of about 20 square meters. km to build 120 km of test roads of all possible profiles.

The commissioning of the unique training ground was very successful (and certainly not accidental!) Coincided with the launch of the Volga Automobile Plant. In 1966, when the department of the chief designer was just forming at VAZ, tests of the Fiat-124 and prototypes of the VAZ-2101, which were assembled in Italy, were already in full swing near Dmitrov. The result of comprehensive tests were hundreds of changes that were made to the machine to adapt to our conditions. And then almost all domestic cars before going to the conveyor passed through the crucible of Dmitrovsky automobile landfill.

There are no analogues in the country today. Thanks to those who created the landfill with a margin: thanks to the inherent potential, domestic and foreign cars are being tested there and now, they are conducting laboratory work and conducting test drives. With what we NICIAMT and congratulations!
