In the character of the previous Teana, there was a snobbery that rejected any revolution. This was reflected in the classic body styles, and in motion. The car sailed along the road waves, responded with dissatisfied rolls to too abrupt steering movements, while comfort prevailed over driving qualities. The third generation has sharply changed priorities, as in Russia marketers decided to bring the new product closer to the Honda Accord and Mazda 6, which were initially focused on the driver. The appearance of "Teana" is now more expression. But the changes are not only aesthetic in nature. Streamlined shapes, sloping front struts, a different design of the exterior mirror housings at the same time reduced aerodynamic noise.

Comparing with the second generation, I note that the wheelbase has not changed, but the length has increased by 13 mm due to bumpers (by the way, they will now be cast in Russia). The novelty is 30 mm wider and 44 mm lower than its predecessor, the ground clearance remains the same - 150 mm. For the sake of better handling, we increased the torsional rigidity of the body: an additional amplifier appeared near the rear shelf, and in the engine compartment - a strut like in sports cars.

In the rear multi-link suspension there are new silent blocks connecting the lower levers of each wheel. In corners they provide a taxiing effect. The shock absorbers are stiffer and taller than on the Altima American twin brother. In general, they took care of a more acute driving sensation, without forgetting about safety. After all, the Japanese reasonably consider our roads not as smooth as in the United States.

There is no trace of the restrained classicism of previous generations. The front panel has become brighter, more modern … But more originality.

Indeed, there is no trace of the rolls of the previous generation. The car is tougher, more accurate feedback on the steering wheel. Although on winding paths near Lake Como, Italy, where the new Teana was shown to reporters, I would rather feel even clearer reactions. Add Mazdov’s pungency, then the symbiosis of a well-tuned undercarriage, a modified X-Tronic variator manufactured by Jatko and a 2.5-liter engine will become really complete.

The four-cylinder engine QR25DE received a new block head, an intake manifold of variable length, and the steel casing of the exhaust manifold was replaced with aluminum. I liked it more than the flagship 3.5-liter V6. The Quartet is quite flexible, smooth acceleration as if reminds that it is still a business sedan, and not a hot hatchback. The car goes forward without excessive nervousness, respectably and with dignity. The “six” character is expected to be more explosive. And it also uses the same variator, but already with the ability to choose the transmission using the keys under the steering wheel.

On the mountain serpentine, such a “Teana” seemed even too sharp: I just squeezed the gas, and it jumps forward with the ease of a cheetah. But on the highway - that’s it! Powerful, assertive, and most importantly - quiet and still as comfortable.

Against the optimistic background of engines and suspension, the interior lacks original features. It can be appreciated in one word: normal. Good build quality, good finishing materials, but the look does not cling to something extraordinary. The center console is similar to the one at Toyota Camry, the steering wheel is a la Nissan Murano, but the massive central tunnel seems to have migrated from the previous generation.

At the same time, the interior is functionally good. The design of the front seats uses the principle of optimal unloading of the spine (the technology of "zero gravity"). Without going into details, I’ll say that the back for 200 km is not tired. With my height of 190 cm, it was not necessary to lower the chair as much as possible. The range of longitudinal adjustment is also decent. Depending on the configuration, the driver's seat can be ordered with adjustments in six or eight directions.

There is no less attention to the rear sofa, because business sedans often serve in the fleets of large companies. It is as spacious as the front, and the decrease in the height of the car did not affect the convenience of landing. The boss has a large armrest in which two cup holders are integrated. There are buttons for heating the seat, controlling the rear window blind.

The trunk is also quite good - however, due to the full-size spare tire, its volume is slightly less than, say, the Chinese version of the model.

COURSE CHANGE

Despite a sharp turn from a quiet car to a more drivier one, the Teana’s main competitor, according to marketers, is the former Toyota Camry. Prices and equipment are similar. Although I personally would bring the new product closer to the new, Americanized Honda Accord - they have something in common in driving habits.

In an attempt to reach the recognized leaders of the Teana segment, it undoubtedly gained that strategic height from which competitors can be attacked. A fresh image will attract a new audience, and a well-tuned suspension will appeal to a wide range of customers. But how will the people most loyal to the model react to the new product - the owners of the previous Tean who want to change their car for a new one? Will their changes scare them away, or make them prefer the same Camry? Teana has yet to answer these questions.

+ Spacious interior, 2.5-liter engine and CVT - a great symbiosis. - Against the background of the exterior, the interior lacks originality. There is no ventilation for the rear sofa, an automatic power window is only for the driver.
