Times have changed dramatically - a couple of phone calls can solve almost any problem, whether it is a serious vehicle breakdown or any traffic accident. The approaches to solving problems have changed, and modern automotive attributes have changed. We will try to evaluate the optimal set of motorist gadgets of our time in this article.

Before the rapid development of the digital industry began, if there was any traffic incident with you, it was not so easy to prove your case, especially if there were no witnesses on your side. Now things are different: if you have not forgotten to install a DVR in the car, then, consider that it is a hat. But if you want the testimony of an electronic witness to have more weight, the choice of this device should be approached wisely. Firstly, the record must contain the exact date and time corresponding to the time of the accident, information about the manufacturer who has passed the PCT certification, and the record of the incident should be legible. The video detail is really excellent: with daytime recording, almost all license plates of cars in relative proximity can be recognized. The conditions of a night city with artificial lighting, of course, change the situation: with general high definition, the pictures of the numbers are visible at a distance of 1-2 car bodies. I was pleasantly surprised by the ultra-wide viewing angle: it reaches 170 °! But the ergonomics of the gadget is no less important than its filling: sometimes in one day you have to remove and install the DVR several times. HD 740 in this regard is extremely convenient: it is fixed in the holder and is put into operation very quickly, and the menu control contributes to the fastest start of recording. Despite the small size, the case fits a very large and high-quality 2.7-inch display. The mount is also compact, allowing you to rotate the recorder in two planes. For those who need a simpler model, the Stealth DVR ST 90 recorder is suitable. This device shoots video in HD-quality (1920 × 1080) and allows digital photography with a resolution of 12 megapixels. The viewing angle is smaller (120 °), but the weight and dimensions of the case are some of the smallest among analogues: the device can be easily carried in your pants pocket without any inconvenience.

This device, unlike the previous one, works in a preventive way, urging the driver to slow down in front of the radar in advance, thereby saving significant amounts of money. I think that Soviet motorists could hardly imagine how many measures would be taken to force the driver to drive according to the rules. Even, it would seem, in the more civilized cities of Europe there is no such concentration of cameras for photo and video recording. And although there are more and more cameras on the roads, and their principle of operation is becoming more cunning, auto-electronics manufacturers also do not stand still. Surprisingly, it is a fact: modern radar detectors, such as Whistler and PARKCITY, can easily recognize almost all types of radars used in the traffic police. Thus, the driver can even be notified about the operation of the modern Iskra-1 mobile radar, which operates at twice the K-band frequency. The main disadvantage of such radars is that they operate in a pulsed mode - it is for the processing of such signals that the sensitive POP mode is used. But if such sensitivity is only on hand on the track, then in the city, due to the abundance of various interference, the radar detector will "blow" without ceasing. For such cases, additional modes cannot be dispensed with. Since police radars using the X frequency band are hardly used in the city, when entering a megalopolis it is more reasonable to choose either City 1 mode (the device becomes less susceptible to X-band signals) or City 2 (X-signals are completely excluded).

These radars also cope with the widely spread Strelka-ST complexes, which used to be almost “elusive”. Soon, modern radio electronics dealt with this: Whistler and PARKCITY, for example, are able to notice Strelka more than a kilometer away. But not so long ago, more sophisticated complexes appeared on the tracks, such as Avtouragan-VS and Avtodoriya - these radars automatically calculate the speed of the car, fixing the distance and time the vehicle covered a particular section of the road. And it is already impossible to somehow calculate such devices without knowing their location in advance. Just for such cases, on more expensive models of radar detectors, such as the Whistler WH-439ST, GPS receivers are installed that tell the device the exact coordinates of each radar complex. The only inconvenience a motorist may encounter is the need to update the coordinate system of the complexes, which is always available on the manufacturer’s website. But there is always the opportunity to reduce the number of false positives to zero by turning on the third city mode on the radar detector, which will only use photo and video fixation systems entered in the device’s own memory.

Modern piston electric pumps have become commonplace for most motorists: they turn it on and wait for the wheel to pump itself. But as you can imagine, how long it took the driver before to pump with a foot pump, for example, an UAZ wheel or a medium tonnage truck, it feels uneasy. Some modern compressors, by the way, may require no less time for pumping than mechanical ones. The choice of this device when buying should be approached carefully, especially if your car is a heavy SUV with high profile tires. Here, the main criterion for selection is the pump performance. With a capacity of 50 l / min., PARKCITY CQ-9 will be able to inflate the wheel of an average off-road vehicle in just 3-4 minutes (1.5 minutes will be enough for an average passenger car tire).

Particularly important is the performance of the compressor on the roads, where frequent air bleeding from the tires is required in order to increase throughput: deflated to 0.5-1 atm. four-wheel drive SUV, PARKCITY is able to pump in about 8-10 minutes. A 3-meter wire and a 4.5-meter air hose are designed to make this procedure more convenient. For greater reliability, instead of the usual plug, crocodiles connected directly to the battery are used here, and instead of a quick-clamping fitting, threaded ones.
