Opel Insignia appeared in our country at the height of the economic crisis, which thoroughly spoiled the car’s statistics: even despite the numerous advantages of Opel, interest in this car turned out to be very restrained. However, since then a lot of water has flowed, and during this time Insignia managed to acquire Russian citizenship and survive a very successful restyling.

Take as a basis

At the very beginning, we will determine the type of body, the benefit of "Insignia" has three. A classic sedan is good until the very moment when you don’t need to, say, transport winter wheels to the garage in the spring - this will be very problematic. And if at first dealers asked for 15, 000 rubles for a much more practical hatchback, now choosing a five-door will not entail absolutely no financial costs. Already not bad! So we will opt for a hatchback. The versatile person’s abilities, of course, are much wider, but they are estimated at a substantial 45, 000 rubles. In addition, the curb weight of the elegant Sports Tourer is almost a third tonne higher than that of a hatchback, which not only hinders the car’s temperament, but also increases its appetite. Finally, the all-wheel drive “Country-Tourer” built on the basis of the station wagon is equipped with the most powerful and, accordingly, expensive motors, as a result of which it can in no way claim to be optimal.

We proceed to the selection of the power unit. The basic 140-horsepower engine, which famously moved the Vectra predecessor, is definitely not suitable for the heavy Insignia - the car is heavy with it. And we completely agree that this engine cannot be obtained with an "automatic" - such a tandem would look extremely unconvincing.

Another thing is the new 170-horsepower turbo engine, which can be obtained, including, with a 6-speed "automatic". By the way, the combination of an automatic transmission with a relatively affordable engine became possible precisely after modernization - and this is perhaps one of the most pleasant consequences of restyling.

With such an engine, Insignia gains decent acceleration dynamics (9.9 s to 100 km / h), but at the same time remains more or less restrained in terms of fuel economy. So we consider this engine to be the most suitable for our optimum.

A two-liter 249-horsepower engine can be obtained exclusively with an all-wheel drive chassis, which makes it worth an impressive 284, 000 rubles relative to the optimal version. Yes, and such a car can not be called economical.

However, the 4WD transmission can be obtained with a less expensive and gluttonous diesel engine. But even with front-wheel drive, an Opel diesel engine is 138, 000 rubles more expensive than our optimum, which will not pay off in five years of operation with an annual mileage of 20, 000 km. In addition, the turbodiesel guarantees increased noise, noticeable vibrations and difficult starting at temperatures below -25 ° C.

Standing alone is the OPC version with 325-horsepower V6-turbo and four-wheel drive. The hurricane dynamics (6.3 s to 100 km / h) is estimated at almost two million and also pulls the maximum possible rate of transport tax, which will force the state to unfasten fifty thousand rubles annually.

It remains to choose a complete set. The smallest possible version of equipment with a 1.6T engine is Elegance. However, if you estimate that for an additional 105, 000 rubles you can get almost two dozen very interesting options in Cosmo, the question disappears by itself. Moreover, in this case, the more expensive version implies an expanded selection of additional equipment - for example, bi-xenon headlights and navigation in the Elegance cannot be obtained for any kind of carriage.

So, we take the “Insignia-Cosmo-1.6T-AT” as the basis. At the same time, we would not want to overcome the bar of 1.2 million rubles, so as not to make the purchase equal in price to prestigious middle-class models. It should be borne in mind that the option we have chosen involves a wide range of equipment, and we only need to lightly season it with options.

COLOR METALLIC (14 000 rub.). A large and solid car - which is exactly what the Insignia looks like - simply must be painted in a decent color. In addition, metallic due to additional layers of varnish is more resistant to the surrounding reality, and it is quite inexpensive by the standards of the middle class.

BIXENON ADAPTIVE HEADLIGHTS (39 000 rub.). “Opel” was one of the first in the world to include “smart” headlights in the list of options that can adapt to the current driving conditions. In our opinion, it is definitely worth paying extra for better illumination of roads outside large cities. And the Insignia looks more solid with such eyes.

PERFORATED SKIN FINISHING (55 000 rub.). Thanks to the perforation, the upholstery of such seats gets the opportunity to “breathe”, which minimizes the well-known problems of leather furniture in the heat and cold. Finally, such an interior looks more solid and is much better suited for cleaning than a fabric one. The choice remains for you - elegant beige or practical black color.

NAVIGATION SYSTEM (15 000 rub.). It’s definitely worth paying extra for an electronic navigator - at this price (perhaps the best on the market), even in the absence of the possibility of broadcasting traffic jams, this is a very advantageous offer that expands the capabilities of your car.

PACKAGE "ASSISTANT DRIVER-1" (17 000 rubles). This is a front-facing camera that recognizes some traffic signs, coupled with a collision avoidance system. In our opinion, a very moderate surcharge for an additional security threshold.

PACKAGE "ASSISTANT DRIVER-2" (40 000 rubles). It includes the previous package, as well as the automatically activated high beam mode and adaptive cruise control, implying the possibility of automatically starting movement after a complete stop of the car. By the standards of other brands, it is quite inexpensive. Nevertheless, the operation of the system cannot be recognized as ideal, so we leave the choice to you.

PACKAGE "ASSISTANT DRIVER-3" (22 000 rubles). In addition to the Cosmo version of the front and rear parking sensors, there are side sensors that, coupled with a help system, make it easier for the driver to live in the city. In addition, the price includes the monitoring system for “blind” zones, which also works when reversing. And yet, it seems to us, there is no urgent need for such complications.

REAR WIPER (1500 rub.). Since we chose a hatchback, it became possible to get an additional janitor. However, judging by our experience, it will not be in much demand - the hatch body shape desperately resembles a sedan, and the rear window almost always remains clean.

HATCH WITH ELECTRIC DRIVE (26 500 rub.). Interesting fact: this option cost exactly the same five years ago when Insignia first entered the Russian market. And if it seems to you that a window to the sky is a worthy decoration of a car, we will not dissuade you.

ACOUSTIC SYSTEM "BOUZ" (25 000 rub.). A good sound in a car is a subjective matter: someone cannot live without a good sound, and someone perceives music no more than a background. Moreover, in this case, the price looks completely adequate to the capabilities of the audio system.

CD-PLAYER WITH MP3 (10 000 rub.). Since by default you can only find a radio and USB inputs in Insignia, many music lovers who are used to listening to their favorite songs from a CD will be uncomfortable. There is a way out, but you will have to pay for it.

Not recommend

PACKAGE "OPC-Interior-Line" (15 000 rubles). These are aluminum pedals, leather trimmed steering wheel and gear lever with blue stitching plus paddle shifters for manual gear shifting. Inexpensive, but absolutely devoid of practical sense, improvement.

FINISHING SKIN (45 000 rub.). Our choice is more delicate perforated leather.

FINISHING SKIN "PREMIUM" (90 000 rubles). Noticeably more expensive, but not so much better than our chosen option.

DISCS FROM EASY ALLOY 19”/ 20” (14 000/30 000 rubles). The 18-inch alloy wheels, basic for Cosmo, in our opinion, pass along the border between relative comfort and appearance. Paying for impracticality makes no sense.
