- They say that thought is material. And in poker, the main thing is to be able to do your best to get the right card. The same story happened to me when I got the key for the “New Year's” car: a hand in a basket, and a Subaru Forester, Subaru Forester in my head … And the gods heard: 2.0 turbo, but with all-wheel drive! It’s just that there wasn’t something to do with the snows during these holidays: it’s dry, as in Europe, and a confident “plus” on the thermometer, at least count the spikes that survived daily. And on the way to Belarus, in general, everything is green: on the left - winter crops are almost sprouting, on the right - some kind of leafy turnip emerges. But the magnificent track allows you to finally feel the car. And then it turned out that there are actually two cars. One - the one that goes in the Intelligent SI-Drive system, the second - the one that flies in S or S # - the difference in throttle and transmission settings is so huge. In the city this is not understood. By the way, the payment for the set speed and dashing driving turned out to be just a glass of fuel: the consumption from 8.7 l / 100 km rose to only 8.9 liters. And for the final trip and four-wheel drive came in handy: part of the primer in the rain, the locals were mixed so that the field plowed in the fall from the edges did not seem so terrible.

- Unlike my distant voyage colleagues, this time I did not plan for the New Year holidays. Unless one trip to the neighboring area, which did not do the general weather. The bulk of the movement was supposed to fall on the pre-holiday bustle in the metropolis. Naturally, I wanted a car convenient for city traffic. Well, and, of course, with all-wheel drive. Who knew in advance that most of the holidays will take place in the “European climate” - without cold, snow and with dry asphalt on the roads. Oh yes - to burn less fuel in the New Year’s traffic jams, a diesel was preferable … The Volvo XC60, which I got at the “key grab”, is certainly not some kind of nimble hatchback. Nevertheless, hitting the target was pretty accurate! The crossover turned out to be quite dynamic thanks to the new 2-liter D4 diesel engine for our market, it is abundantly equipped with electronic driver assistants and other comfortable "buns" that make the ride easy and enjoyable. Ergonomics were especially pleased - in particular, the center console with a simple and intuitive climate control, concise in design and full of buttons (as I like). And although this is still not my “car format”, in the end I did not want to leave.

- For the New Year holidays - I have SsangYong Actyon. The machine went to the filperpersa - the Red Line series, of course, in a red body, with a matte-red leather interior and all kinds of engineering and electronic achievements of the Korean automobile industry. This is a great option for winter travel with a four-person company. A two-liter diesel engine was enough to quickly gain cruising speed. Moreover, the appetite of 149 “horses” under the hood is very moderate - the average fuel consumption per trip was 7.2 liters per “hundred”. Four-wheel drive came in very handy - the car walked confidently along the highway where there was snow porridge, and turning onto local paths, it effortlessly forced fresh snow. Since there is a minus outside the window, we immediately turned on all the treasured buttons, and - lo and behold! - Nice-warm steering wheel and all seats, including rear passengers. True, after about ten minutes you feel like in a frying pan, and turning off the heater on the go is not so simple. The keys are located on the central tunnel, so you have to stretch your hand to the right and do it by touch. But these are trifles, because, as they say, “steam does not break bones” …

- The advantages of a large SUV are often characterized by the phrase: "I sit high - I look far away." All of this is correct. But there is a downside. For example, as a person of average height, I did not manage to reach the curtain in the Land Cruiser 200, which was designed to cover the cargo compartment - the lower wing of the tailgate prevented. In addition, in trying to do this, I completely got dirty - this is the same dirty place in the car, especially in winter. I had to fold the sash and climb inside - another acrobatic exercise. And in general, the goal of using such a car on public roads remained unclear to me. Well, except for the implementation of the Freudian complex … And the seat heating (cooling) regulator was also annoying - you can’t do without distraction from the road to return it to a neutral position.

- I snatched the coolest car for the New Year holidays: Infiniti QX80 (according to the new classification of the brand). However, having learned the fuel consumption from the results of the Moscow-Samara-Tambov-Moscow voyage (2, 500 km), none of the colleagues were jealous of my “luck”. 15 liters per 100 km at a moderate pace on the highway and far beyond 20 liters in the city. It’s good that even a 100-liter tank, but you had to visit the gas station with it more often than usual. But the rest of the car pleased: QX was surprisingly driver's. In terms of handling, this is one of the best options in the class, and it can be safely put in a row with the Range Rover Supercharged. Let Infiniti lose in dynamics, but the steering wheel of the "Japanese" is more informative. True, to stay on the tail of the Volvo XC60 on a winding slightly frozen road failed - the car stubbornly slid off the trajectory. At first he sinned on tires, but, having learned that the curb weight is 2800 kg, I realized what was the reason. Surprised by QX and comfort: spurious vibrations of unsprung masses to a minimum. Cadillac Escalade or Toyota LC 200 for this part are out of work. At the same time, prices for QX are comparable to prices for LC 200. Diesel would have him. But the main advantage of QX - of course, spaciousness - the gallery is designed for three! Yes, the rear doors are not sliding, like Alhambra, but at the driver’s hand the automatic folding button for the left or right seat is very convenient.

- For the New Year holidays I got Opel Antara in the maximum configuration Cosmo, with a 2.2 diesel engine and an automatic transmission. The combination of a democratic brand, a powerful (184 hp) diesel engine and good equipment is just for me. And the smile on his face is quite sincere. This photo was taken before the test. After I asked the artists to put another picture, where the face is already serious. They refused, but in vain. The reason for reflection was the high actual fuel consumption on this machine. When my colleagues passed it to me, the average consumption of 13.7 liters per 100 kilometers was on the on-board computer display. But I was calm, knowing that many of ours like to “set fire”, and I’m sure that I’ll drop - even if not to passport 10.3 in the city and 6.4 on the highway, so at least up to 11-12 liters on average. I’m not a racer at all, but I also used the economy mode in this car, and drove mainly along suburban semi-empty roads. But, despite all efforts, he could not achieve a flow rate below 12.7 liters. Then I read the forums. It turned out that the problem is familiar to the owners of Antar, but few people know how to deal with it. As for the rest, the car is not bad, we spent the old year together and met a new one. And until the next I would leave. Only here is the expense …

- I celebrated the New Year in an extended family circle outside the city due to relatives from Ukraine. And this means the car is needed first of all, roomy and preferably economical - a house a hundred kilometers from Moscow along the Kiev highway. Therefore, my “random key” generator worked extremely well. Seat Alhambra, who recently visited our test, turned out to be one of the best options - seven full places plus good dynamics and controllability at a flow rate of about 9 liters per 100 km on the highway. This Spanish minivan perfectly fits the role of an excursion “shuttle” - the area of side glazing is almost like on a bus, and wide electrified sliding doors and a convenient passage to the third row allow you to quickly and easily enter and leave the car with a fully equipped crew. So, in the shoes of a guide-driver to the sights of Moscow and the region, I traveled more than 2000 km during these holidays. Alhambra has a couple of advantages, which are noticeable in Russian conditions: the lack of a spare wheel and the high noise level on the highway, which is characteristic of our hinterland.

- I was never lucky in the lottery. So this time I was not at all surprised when I pulled out the keys to the Mazda CX-5 from the New Year’s basket, on the gasoline versions of which I rolled several thousand kilometers. But it seems that fortune smiled at me this time - after all, this version turned out to be with the latest SkyActive turbodiesel, which radically changed the matter. The engine here is just a song. It pulls perfectly in the entire rev range: from almost idle to a maximum of 5000 rpm. In terms of responsiveness to the gas pedal, the crossover is comparable to golf lighters. And the average consumption of diesel fuel amounted to more than 9 l / 100 km. True, my route went not only along suburban routes. Under the gambling engine, the suspension is accordingly configured. The car perfectly obeys the steering wheel, confidently holds a straight line and is reliable in cornering. And thanks to the studded tires, the CX-5 felt comfortable in the Tver outback, where local roads were ice tracks for bobsled. In general, I was lucky with Mazda: in addition to excellent controllability, the crossover turned out to be very profitable in combining power, dynamics and fuel consumption.
