Hyundai i40

Hyundai i40 Hyundai i40
More than a thousand cars were provided by Hyundai for the recent Universiade in Kazan. I don’t know how many station wagons among them were, especially diesel engines - there was only one such on a test drive on the eve of a sports festival.
I still do not have reliable information about where the myth about the weakness of Russians to sedans and only sedans came from. So we once chose the "Lada" - for lack of alternatives. I suspect that our alleged dislike for diesels has the same roots. Meanwhile, this is almost the most practical triune combination, and beforehand, not yet starting the engine, I was ready to praise Hyundai for launching a station wagon with a diesel engine and an automatic machine. Among the class leaders - and this is "Camry", "Passat", "Mazda-6" - only the "German" has such an option. It is not for nothing that they emphasize in the description of the i40: the car was made in Rüsselsheim, in the European research center of the company and in European patterns. See, even a light switch, like German cars. And here is another European property, this time with a minus sign. After seeing how the car was parked, our companion refused to sit in the back seat: say, let’s, colleagues, you will first leave the curb, and only then I will join you. However, the hard rear mudguards still reported their dissatisfaction with contact with asphalt.
The car is low, the clearance of 140 mm is not enough for Russia, in addition, if you put additional engine protection, it will even decrease. However, this is a hallmark of all i40, not just diesel. The Russian office knows this claim, as does the headquarters - all that remains is to hope for a prompt reaction. How does it go? Calmly. I did not expect strong feelings, so I will not say that I was disappointed. Do you want more? And what do you think?
In the luggage compartment, easily changing the configuration, there is a very convenient system of cargo locks and an organizer under the floor. For complete happiness, there is not enough space for a 5-liter bottle with non-freezing liquid. It would be worth looking at the Solaris

In fact, I want more in the entire i40 engine range. If from the point of view of the bodies this model is rather a pleasant exception, then the current two motors beg for the definition of "unfortunate". Thanks for the diesel, of course, but now you need something a liter for two and a half, and preferably three. And at least 200 forces. Then the competitors mentioned will be forced to make room.
Under a pleasant light rumble (you hear it only at a slow speed, everything takes the wind further), we traveled around Kazan and the surrounding sights, emboldened, rode out on the dirt roads and forced the speed bumps … But the navigator showed the finish line - it's time to put things in the sedan. By the way, navigation, parking sensors and roof rails in the trunk for some reason are not included in the standard equipment of the diesel versions Life Style (1, 129, 000 rubles) and Business (1, 189, 000 rubles). At the same time, the manufacturer, with a wide gesture, included in the standard configuration much less useful, in my opinion, cruise control, “bluetooth” and steering column switches of the machine.
So, convenient, economical, beautiful, modern, with a good price - i40 diesel station wagon. These are the arguments for. Low ground clearance - against. Call the dealer? And we find out: not just what is available - there are no cars in the next deliveries! There will be (maybe) months in two, or four, or in half a year. At the ninth car show, I gave up.
Well tell me, gentlemen, manufacturers, - which of us does not like station wagons and is afraid of a diesel engine?
DIESEL HORSES
five

It is hardly worth waiting for the exploits from the 136-horsepower diesel engine, if we had not expected them from the 150-horsepower gasoline engine. But all the time I recalled the phrase that I heard from one very good designer: a diesel “horse”, as a rule, is noticeably stronger than a gasoline one. It pulls smoothly, confidently, does not fail and, most importantly, consumes significantly less oats.
During the Kazan test drive, we received a consumption of 6.7 l / 100 km. Therefore, when the navigator instead of the hotel tried to take us to Khimki near Moscow (accidentally turned on the route to the owners of the car), we could easily get there with a full 70-liter tank without refueling. I’m not sure about the big money savings at current fuel prices, but this advantage of the diesel engine is undeniable: you’ll have to go to the gas station less often.
