Jeep Grand Cherokee Jeep Grand Cherokee
In our country in the mid-1990s, the first generation Jeep Grand Cherokee was saddled by brothers in raspberry-colored jackets with "anchor" chains on thick necks, smoothly turning into shaved heads. Since then, both business methods and public views on coolness have changed dramatically.
The car itself was changing. In 1999, the second generation was released, five years later - the third. Finally, in 2010 they presented the fourth generation, for the presentation of restyling of which I am flying. And where - to Sicily! The island that endowed the world with the word "mafia". I don’t know if the first Grand was here the same attribute of a certain social class, but, you must admit, there is some symbolism in this coincidence.

Despite the modest list of changes, to distinguish the new product from the dorestyling machine is simple. Headlights with LED edging for the navigation lights are the main distinguishing feature. I have two news regarding this update. The first is good: even in the basic versions, the headlights illuminate the world with bi-xenon, and in the top versions of the Summit and SRT they are adaptive. The second is worse (but this is subjective): the new optics look controversial. However, remembering how the brand’s designers handled the usual Cherokee, you understand: Grand is still lucky! At least, the other changes in appearance look organic: they slightly tightened the bumpers, cut the height of the grille, and gave the rear door a slightly different shape.
The most significant change in the cabin is the Uconnect multimedia system with an 8.4-inch screen, developed by Harman specifically for Jeep, Fiat and Chrysler cars. The touchscreen displays navigation with good graphics or a menu for managing audio files; you can connect your phone via bluetooth and even receive information about the traffic situation. I did not like one thing: the choice of climatic modes and the control of the heated front seats are also in the multimedia interface, and therefore it is inconvenient to operate them on the go. Conventional buttons instead of touch would serve as a solid contribution to active safety! No less than the adaptive cruise control now available for the Grand.

The second most striking innovation is the 7-inch TFT-display of the virtual speedometer, which surprisingly organically combines with analog indicators for fuel level, engine temperature and tachometer. The drawn scales and arrows are nice and informative, and the units of measurement (miles or km / h) can be chosen independently.

The machine joystick that migrated from the Chrysler 300 S with the absence of fixed modes does not fit well, and the selected gear can be recognized only by the indication on the panel. But what is the machine itself! The eight-speed ZF hydromechanics, replacing the old 5-speed gearbox, does its job delightfully, quickly and smoothly offering the right gear. From now on, such modifications are available for all modifications of the Grand Cherokee, and this, in my opinion, is the most significant fruit of modernization.
According to the manufacturer, the new box allowed to reduce fuel consumption, however, my diesel "Jeep" still consumed at least 10 liters per hundred on the highway. Yes, and the dynamics are not struck. The three-liter supercharged engine, which now produces 247 horsepower (241 hp before restyling), confidently accelerates the car to only 120 km / h, but then the “Indian” accelerates without much pressure.
Perhaps the 3.6-liter petrol version will behave better, the power of which has remained unchanged at 286 hp? Alas, here the acceleration is rather dull, and there is practically no difference in dynamics compared to diesel. And if so, my choice is the 3.0 CRD engine. It gets along better with a gun, more economical by a couple of liters, moreover, it fits better into our tax rates.
The chassis settings remained unchanged - the assembled and at the same time comfortable suspensions correspond to the capabilities of the base power units and allow you to register the trajectory on mountain roads with pleasure, passing corners with some margin of stability. Those who do not have enough dynamics of the two initial engines should order a 468-horsepower version of the SRT, - their quota, by the way, is quickly sold out.

IT WILL BE MANAGED BY DADDORSET …
The updated Jeep Grand Cherokee enters the Russian market in September this year, prices will be announced just the other day. If you believe the forecasts, we are waiting for their increase of 5-7%, which means that for the initial version will have to pay about 2.3 million rubles.
First, dealers will have the performance of "Laredo", "Limited" and "Overland", later the top Summit will reach us.
In general, the car has become noticeably more modern and fresher, and therefore is quite able to contribute to further growth in sales of the Jeep brand (last year their growth in Russia amounted to 124%), luring buyers from the main competitors in the person of Tuareg and Volvo- XC90."
And from the former “red-jacket” image, there is no trace left.
Easy restyling and a modern automatic machine are a great opportunity to strengthen Grand Cherokee's market position. If only a rise in price is within the reasonable

Depending on the engine and configuration, the Grand Cherokee install one of the four-wheel drive systems available in the concern’s arsenal - Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II or Quadra-Drive II. The first is addressed only to the SRT version; its main advantage is the simplicity of the design. In Quadra-Trac I there is no reduction row in the transfer case, and the moment between the axles is distributed without the participation of the driver. In a normal situation, the whole moment is fed back, and the front wheel drive is connected when the rear wheels slip or to prevent their slipping.
The Quadra-Trac II circuitry includes an electronically controlled center differential that allows you to distribute up to 100% of the torque between the front and rear wheels. In the transfer case - a lowering row with a ratio of 2.72. Imitate wheel lock braking mechanisms.
The Overland and Summit versions are equipped with the most advanced Quadra-Drive II system. It is based on a central differential, combined with electronically controlled cross-axle limited-slip differentials, providing active torque distribution. Under standard road conditions, 48% of the thrust is fed to the front axle, 52% to the rear. Under variable clutch conditions, the system redistributes the torque between the axles, directing it to the wheels with the highest coefficient of adhesion. Quadra-Drive II has a higher and lower transmission rows.

+ The new 8-speed automatic came to Grand Cherokee very handy.
