The first generation car was significant for AvtoVAZ, but, alas, crude. The refinement of the successor was in much more comfortable conditions with the support of foreign partners. Therefore, almost all technical improvements and innovations (ЗР, 2013, No. 4) look quite logical and implemented soundly.

But I was even more interested in the tandem of the most powerful engine and gearboxes. After all, the first mass "Lada", stepping over 100 forces! And although it is still not suitable for traffic lights, it surely pulls from one and a half thousand revolutions, which is much more important for such a car. I also tested the new box for the first time, and this is by far the best innovation. The lever moves are shorter, the mechanism pleases with selectivity and clarity. So the games “find all the programs”, which lasted almost two decades, ended here.

Despite a major upgrade, the steering mechanism still raises complaints. The modified rack mount made the controls more accurate, the modified suspension reduced rolls, and the car still does not seem too friendly. With active taxiing, the effort on the steering wheel suddenly grows. At small turning angles in the near-zero zone, not feedback is felt, but a banal increase in resistance.
The seats inherited the old ones with minor modifications: the same softness and weak lateral support. The first drawback, judging by the experience of traveling on many cars (in particular, French), does not cause serious discomfort, the second is much more unpleasant, especially for the front passenger, who is deprived of additional support in the form of a steering wheel, and therefore slides more from side to side. It is too early to judge the quality of the car in full. But a few hours are enough for a first impression. Bad heredity still manifests itself here. The interior decoration does not seem monolithic: either one part or another is trying to say something to passengers on the next bump. The indicator lights up only when the driver's door is opened, the relays click out from under the instrument panel, the back of the rear seat is still reluctant to fold, the triple blink function of the turn signal is inconvenient to use because of an incomprehensible effort on the lever - you can’t squeeze it, then turn on the constant mode.
For the new Kalina hatchback in the maximum configuration, moreover, with a gun, they ask 445 thousand rubles. Surcharge for a station wagon - a modest 7 thousand. AvtoVAZ’s bid for rich equipment turned out to be true: competitors have similar sets worth at least half a million. But there will be a win only in one case: if the manufacturer puts a large amount on the “quality” sector.
