If you have arrived in a car service center on a modern car for diagnostics of the brake system, but you are simply offered to change the pads, it’s just the right time to be wary. In good service centers, the diagnosis and repair of brakes is called “brake system maintenance” and nothing else! Indeed, otherwise simply no repair will fail. Let's take a closer look at why.
Modern cars are increasingly reminiscent of multi-functional robots - they are simply crammed with complex electronics: engine control systems, ABS, electronic stability control (ESP), air conditioning and air systems, and so on, including the braking system. Of course, this makes operating the machine much easier, and also takes safety to a new level. For example, the use of electronics in the brake system helps the driver to brake much faster and maintain control of the car during difficult maneuvers. In addition, "brake electronics" integrates the operation of individual systems (for example, ABS and ESP), which gives a synergistic effect.
But along with cars, car repair shops also change. More sophisticated cars have led to the emergence of complex technologies needed for diagnosis and repair. Visual inspection and good knowledge of the system is no longer enough. Repair "the old fashioned way" will not only take much more time, but also, most likely, will not give the desired effect. Manual service can only confuse control systems and lead to malfunctions.

Manual brake systems, for example, must have electronic control units to index the position of the brake pads on the vehicle. This is especially important when replacing brake pads, as the control unit needs to know the thickness of the pads for proper installation.
In addition, specialists strongly recommends that mechanics install new components at every service to the brake systems. Although used components may look suitable for future use, they probably lost some of their performance due to stress, moisture, salt corrosion and (in most climatic conditions) high temperatures. Replacing components when changing brake pads gives a quality repair, reducing the number of possible warranty claims, reducing noise during brake operation, increased safety for passengers and drivers, that is, a service similar to that of the manufacturer. It is also important that the price of such auxiliary components is only 3-6% of the price of repair of brake discs and pads.

However, modern diagnostic and repair systems are not enough. The main role is played by high-quality friction units that correspond to the operational characteristics of components for the original equipment. Here, world leaders in the production of components for the secondary market, for example, Delphi, come first.
Firstly, carefully selected compositions of materials allow using more than two dozen different friction materials in the Delphi line of brake linings. These formulations are designed and improved to maintain consistently high performance.

Secondly, besides this, in most Delphi brake linings, the technology of the substrate is used - a layer of friction material containing a higher proportion of resins compared to the main friction material. This technology, used by many original equipment manufacturers, suppresses noise-generating vibrations and provides higher traction on the support disc. Adjusting washers, grooves and chamfers of brake linings are made according to the specifications of the original equipment and provide excellent performance and durability.
Thirdly, Delphi aftermarket brake pads undergo comprehensive quality control tests performed by the company's development engineers. Thus, the pads undergo full operational tests for work in extremely adverse conditions corresponding to the worst roads in the world.

The good news is also the constant expansion of Delphi's assortment and fleet coverage - in the summer of 2012 a new catalog of Delphi brake pads, discs and drums corresponding to the original level of quality was released; 220 new items have been added to Delphi's friction element portfolio.
New items include brake discs, brake pads, brake linings and drums, new ABS sensors for the most popular new cars in Europe: the new Audi A6, A7, A8, Citroen C4 & DS4, Peugeot 508, BMW new 5 & 6 Series, the new Seat Alhambra and VW Amarok and Sharan.
