We check the condition of the chassis and transmission on a viewing ditch or overpass every 20 thousand kilometers or after heavy blows to the vehicle's suspension when driving through deep holes, etc.

The running gear parts (wheels, levers and suspension springs, anti-roll bars, shock absorbers) and the transmission (front drive shafts) must not have deformations, cracks or other mechanical damages affecting the shape and strength of the parts. By hanging the wheels one by one (while the car must be firmly fixed on the stand), we check the condition of the bearings of their hubs.

Use only factory-made coasters. The wheel by hand should rotate evenly, without jamming or knocking.

Holding the wheel in a vertical plane, alternately sharply pull the upper part of the wheel towards itself, and the lower part from itself, and vice versa.

We are convinced of the absence of play (knocking). If there is any play, we ask the assistant to press the brake pedal. If the play has disappeared, then the hub bearing is defective, and if the knock remains, then most likely the suspension parts are worn out. Wheel hubs with worn or damaged bearings must be replaced. To check the serviceability of ball bearings, we insert a powerful screwdriver between the suspension arm and the steering knuckle, while protecting the ball joint cover from damage.

Squeezing the lever with a powerful screwdriver or mounting blade, we monitor the movement of the ball bearing housing relative to the knuckle.

If there is play in the ball joint, replace it. Similarly, we check the ball bearing of another wheel.

We check the condition of the protective covers of the ball bearings.

Replace ball joints with torn, cracked covers.

To check the silent blocks of the front suspension arms…

… insert a mounting blade or a powerful screwdriver between the eye of the lever and the subframe …

… and try to move the eye of the lever relative to the subframe in different directions. If the eye of the lever moves without significant effort, it means that the silent block of the lever is very worn or damaged and must be replaced.

Tearing, cracking and buckling of the rubber bush of the silent block are not permitted. Similarly, we check the silent blocks of the rear suspension arms.

We check the ball joints of the struts of the anti-roll bar of the front suspension by moving the racks by hand in different directions.

If there is play in the ball joints, replace the stabilizer struts.

We check the condition of the protective covers of the ball joints of the stabilizer posts.

Cracked, torn or loose elastic covers must be replaced.

Rotating and turning the front wheels alternately (with the front of the car hung out) …

… and the internal joints of the front wheel drives, we check the reliability of their fastening with clamps.

Cracked, torn or loose elastic covers must be replaced.

We check the absence of oil leakage from the gearbox through the oil seals of the internal joints of the drives. If there is a leak, replace the seals.

We check and, if necessary, tighten the fastening elements of the front and rear subframes to the body.

We check the condition of the springs, telescopic racks and shock absorbers of the front and rear suspensions.

Suspension springs must not be damaged. Tears, cracking, and severe deformation of rubber bushings, pads, and shock absorber compression buffers are not permitted. Leakage of liquid from shock absorbers is not allowed. Slight fogging of the shock absorber in its upper part while maintaining the characteristics is not a malfunction.

If the rubber element of the upper support of the telescopic stand is upset or destroyed, the support must be replaced.

We examine the struts and pillows of the anti-roll bar of the rear suspension.

If tears, cracking and severe deformation are detected on the rubber cushions, the rods and racks must be replaced.

When the car is moving, a faulty exhaust system can emit sounds and knocks that are erroneously attributed to defects in the suspension of the wheels. Therefore, it is advisable to inspect the exhaust system together with a check of the chassis.
