However, some time later, in an interview with the American publication Automotive News, the person responsible for the development of the 11th-generation Corolla, Hiroya Fujita, said that for the USA, as well as some other markets, the car will differ significantly, not only in design but also in size. A little later, spy shots of camouflaged prototypes appeared, which clearly showed a constructive connection not with the modest Axio, but with a more respectable fellow company concern - the Auris hatchback, photos of which at that time were already widely available. In less than six months, all of this was confirmed at the Detroit Motor Show, where the concept with the explicit name Toyota Corolla Furia was demonstrated (see “Driving - Region”, No. 2/2013).

Of course, this is not a pre-production version of the new Corolla, but in the appearance of the Furies, key design elements are clearly visible: a rounded hood in plan, sharply upturned corners of the rear door windows, an aggressively faceted front bumper. But the proportions of the 11th generation of the Toyota bestseller will still be different, which is clearly visible in the photographs taken by automobile paparazzi: the front overhang is longer, the roof is more sloping, and the windows are slightly larger.

Well, more recently, there was a leak, which allowed to doubt its accidental occurrence (you can recall the story with the "iPhone", supposedly accidentally left on a table in a cafe). On the frames posted in one of the Polish automobile blogs, the car appeared almost in open form, although it was photographed from unfavorable angles and a very wide angle. But these shots gave a fairly complete picture of the car, which allowed our artist to depict it very accurately. Any doubts about the relationship between this car and Auris disappeared, which is also confirmed by the interior of the novelty, also captured by an unknown photographer (although the quality of the picture left much to be desired, but our artist coped with this as well). The front panel, for example, differs from the one that is installed on the Auris, only in small details.

The interior of Corolla differs from Auris in only insignificant elements: instead of the chrome-plated trapezoid on the front panel there is a horizontal molding dividing the dashboard into two parts, round side ventilation deflectors gave way to parallelograms, and in the instrument cluster another dial has been added (such a flap, however, is mounted on the base version of the Australian Auris, which is called Corolla Ascent there) The interior of the Corolla differs from Auris in only minor elements: on the front panel instead of a chrome trapezoid there is the horizontal molding dividing the dashboard into two parts, the round side ventilation vents gave way to parallelograms, and another dial was added to the instrument cluster (such a flap, however, is installed on the basic versions of the Australian Auris, which is called Corolla Ascent there) The interior of the Corolla is different from Auris with only insignificant elements: instead of the chrome-plated trapezoid on the front panel there is a horizontal molding dividing the dashboard into two parts, round side ventilation deflectors gave way to parallel ammam …

During the premiere at the Detroit Auto Show, the dimensions of the Corolla Furia concept were announced: length - 4620 mm, width - 1805 mm, height - 1425 mm, and wheelbase - 2700 mm. It seems that the dimensions of the production car will not differ too much from these figures (it cannot be ruled out that they generally already refer to the real Corolla). That is, Toyota swung at such overgrowths of the "C" segment as the Volkswagen Jetta, Renault Fluence and the new Skoda Octavia!
True, the question remains regarding powertrains. According to some reports, the main engines will be 1.6 and 1.8 liters, and a 6-speed "mechanics" and a variator will act as a transmission. In addition, it is not yet known whether the Corolla that surfaced in Poland is the European version, or was the picture taken from overseas? And in general, will they differ from each other?
A completely different Corolla
Here's what is surprising: if Toyota Corolla Axio came to our market now (naturally with a normal steering wheel position), then it would not compete with the Ford Focus, Mitsubishi Lancer and Mazda3, but with the now-popular B-class sedans, such as: Volkswagen Polo Hyundai Solaris, Kia Rio, Chevrolet Aveo, etc. After all, its length is only 4360 mm, width - 1695 mm, and height - 1460 mm. The wheelbase of the machine is 2600 mm. That is, it pretty closely matches the dimensions of the above cars. Yes, and the range of engines is quite suitable: a 1.3-liter 95-horsepower engine and a one and a half liter unit with 109 hp. Both are gasoline. Of the transmissions - a 5-speed "mechanics" and a variator. Given how powerful the magic of the Toyota brand has on domestic consumers, it can be assumed that the Japanese would have significantly damaged their competitors. True, provided that the price would be suitable …
