Design, as they say, is timeless.

Compared with its predecessor, the new Octavia has grown considerably. It stretched as long as 90 mm: now the front bumper from the rear is separated by 4659 mm. Width, height, wheelbase - an increase is visible everywhere. As a result, the car is now perceived as a representative of segment D, but the Czechs continue to classify it as a golf class, more compact. A very convenient position for PR of own achievements, which was confirmed by the press conference.

The margin of space for the knees is greater than in many cars of the segment D, and the height-width of the place has noticeably arrived. But the floor tunnel has increased, which makes the average passenger not as comfortable sitting as before. The trunk is also champion. Its volume grew to 590 liters unattainable in the C-class. With the sofa folded, the capacity increases to 1580 liters - not every station wagon of similar dimensions has such a “hold”!

And most of all I liked the simple but extremely effective way to reliably fix the luggage. I'm talking about a bracket with a variable angle, which is easy to fix in any part of the trunk with a regular Velcro. It is surprising that no one had thought of such a thing before. From May, the usability of the car will increase even more - the Czechs plan to introduce a folding passenger seat for the front passenger and the possibility of folding the second row from the trunk. And then the “Octavia” could well be frustrated with minivans.

The quality of the finish is very high - it is even surprising that Skoda is still positioning itself as a manufacturer of relatively simple and affordable cars.

But subjectively, the car did not become noticeably faster - it does not spin. Rides powerfully, assertively, but without a spark.

It is proposed to choose between Normal, Sport, Eco and Individual modes - they differ from each other in engine settings, DSG gearbox, adaptive cruise control, bi-xenon headlights and climate control. In truth, the difference between the modes I felt only on the steering wheel - in "Sport" it is more tight. However, I went to the version with the mechanics, and with the DSG, it is perhaps easier to catch the differences.

There is also an emergency braking function: at a speed of up to 30 km / h the Octavia itself will slow down until it stops completely when an obstacle suddenly arises. Checked: it works! But especially the Czechs are proud of the re-collision avoidance system. It automatically brakes the car after an accident, even if the driver has not pressed the brake pedal. But I did not check this function.

The abundance of electronics on board is not always in demand, and returns for two hundred “horses” in everyday life are optional. In fact, 140 forces are almost always enough. Unless at the exit from high-speed turns, such an Octavia accelerated less actively than the top version. But there are also modifications with a 1.2-liter gasoline turbo engine (86 or 105 hp) - I wonder how they go? There is a good reason for a new meeting with "Czech crystal"!
