Updates for the first two devices (upon closer inspection, they turned out to be twin brothers) are released twice a month. The developers of the "Inspector" offer to connect to the Internet once a month. The site address with the necessary files is indicated in the instructions attached to the devices. The process itself is simple and takes a maximum of 10 minutes.
However, there are detectors that detect the threat on their own, without the help of satellites. This is the fourth participant in our test - Street Storm STR-9000EX. He attracted increased attention: a more advanced design is more interesting to evaluate.

The maximum distance available in the settings is 1.5 km, which is more than enough for the fans of the movie “Fast and the Furious”. In the urban area, the threshold can be reduced to 200 m. The Inspector issued a warning for 700-800 m. Street Storm promises to be “not less than 500 m” and in practice in most cases covers this figure. Let's not forget that, unlike competitors, its capabilities directly depend on the terrain. However, all the Strelka complexes on the route were confidently noticed by the device. Alas, the warning squeak will not stop right after the radar passes: Street Storm will also detect the neighboring complex operating in the oncoming lane. Useless lesson - “shooters” do not shoot in the back. Detectors with a GPS receiver do not have this drawback: they only inform about cameras on your way.
With the other weapons of the inspectors - portable complexes "Chris" and the like - the whole four copes without difficulty. The emitter working in the back to the stream also does not escape attention. Unless, of course, there is a car in front that will reflect the signal.
The number of false positives on the track for all models is small. Only weak signals of the K- and Ka-bands appear systematically - this is a reaction to the automatic doors of gas stations and shops. A little more often and louder than the rest, the "Inspector" is worried about this.

First of all, select the desired mode of operation. All participants in the test have two: ordinary (“city”) and advanced. Here are the differences between the different models.
“Silver Stone” and “Sho-Mi” in the “city 2” mode do not catch radiation in most ranges, as well as short pulses (POP signals, which also give out some radars). False positives occur in this mode, but their number tends to zero. There is a function of disabling the reception of all signals (except for warnings about cameras and traffic police posts) until a certain speed is reached. It must be set independently, for example 60 km / h.
The detection range is the same for the city and for the highway, but the sensitivity of 1 km on Moscow highways studded with cameras is clearly excessive. On the other hand, reducing it in the metropolis, you risk forgetting about it on the highway. The mode of automatically changing the distance of measurements to cameras helps partially cope with the deficiency. Say, at a speed of 80 km / h this is 600 m, at 120 km / h - 1.5 km.

The database is not faulty: a couple of detectors missed one radar, moreover, installed among the first. However, the situation is easy to correct: detectors with a GPS function allow you to independently add objects to memory. Moreover, both missed speed meters and labels about false signals.
At the "Inspector" advanced mode is called "city +". In addition to reduced sensitivity in different ranges, the user is asked to set a speed threshold in the range from 0 to 80 km / h. Below the entered border, the detector will be absolutely indifferent to any alarm. A convenient option, because it is this device in the usual city mode that annoys with pettiness. A similar "chip" with a limit of 90 to 130 km / h is provided for the highway. Radar detection range depends on speed. The instruction speaks about the thresholds of 700 and 500 m, however, in practice, the boundaries of the alarm range from 300 to 800 m, depending on the speed. The device is not cheap, but more than compensated for this with stable operation: not a single missed camera out of three dozen!

"Street Storm" in the "city 2" mode reacts with sound only to laser emitters and "arrows". A very useful feature, given the specifics of the device. It works correctly, but only until a machine with any other radar detector appears nearby. At the same time, the 9000th begins to flash indicators of the K- and Ka-bands, showing the maximum signal level, and also give false warnings about the “Arrow”. And this happens in any of the three modes.
Fortunately, such meetings are rare on the highway, and in the “city 2” mode the device only blinks without annoying with audible warnings. So do not rush to throw out the assistant who was alarmed out of business, out of the window - it is better to skip forward a fellow traveler with a radar detector. Otherwise, Street Storm worked a little worse than out of town. He spent a couple of speed meters in silence - we will write this on the side effect of reducing sensitivity. But the Street Storm does not notice the complexes that fix exclusively the exit to the lane for public transport, unlike the detectors with GPS-function. We checked this fact on several routes of Moscow. So fans will not fit under the bus.

What to recommend? In the main subject - the warning of stationary radars - everyone gets the offset. Four does not give in to other types of speed meters. By comparing prices, we get the undisputed leader: “Sho-Mi G-800” is available and has a fairly accurate database (of course, within the borders we checked).
I can not help a few words “without protocol”. Personally, I made a choice in favor of the Street Storm STR-9000EX detector. The ability to work without a crib deserves respect and is worth the overpaid money. In addition, the manufacturer already offers cheaper models with similar capabilities.
