And a good half of men, in spite of short strokes and clear switching of the “handle”, would probably prefer hydromechanics. Thanks at least for a more powerful turbocharged gasoline engine in combination with a mechanical, but already six-speed gearbox (such a version will soon be offered).

It even becomes a shame for a successful machine, because nothing more will cause this Opel to scare buyers away. The salon pleases the eye and fingertips with high-quality plastics, the front seats welcome the riders in their arms, and the multimedia system pleases with speed and excellent sound. I just wanted to relax and enjoy driving. However, how much joy will you squeeze out of 87 horsepower strangled by eco-norms and moving 1, 120 kilograms of self-expression and style in space? Alas, not too much.
If you characterize this power unit in one word, the most appropriate would be "sufficient." The speakers are really enough for confident urban and suburban driving, but it is hardly capable of carving out at least one bright spark of emotions. “Adam” accelerates unacceptably dejectedly, and it is especially offensive when you know how good the chassis turned out!

The balance between handling and ride was found to be very successful. Flavored with a short sharp steering wheel, the car is screwed into the turns with pleasure and predictability, and rushing on it along a narrow winding country path is a complete delight! In terms of handling, Adam still falls short of the Mini, but you can’t expect such noble behavior from a machine built only on a shortened Corsa platform. Oh, that’s a more powerful engine of the same volume, but with a turbocharger and a power of 180 hp. This is exactly what will most likely be on the OPC version, a prototype of which is expected in March at the Geneva Motor Show. Then I’ll think about a possible purchase.

How much how much? Eleven thousand euros for the most affordable "Adam"? Yes, this is less than the initial cost of the closest Fiat-500 in terms of size, manufactured since 2008! Of course, for the money the baby will be equipped with a very weak, 70-horsepower 1.2-liter engine, but the “Italian” has only a 69-horsepower engine of the same volume. Incredibly tempting! It is too early to talk about prices, features of the complete sets and the level of basic equipment of the Russian versions, but the hope that Opel will put a sane price tag on the new product remains in our country, of course.

The only problem is that the affordable and insanely stylish “Adam” risks in this case turning from a niche product into a mass one. And then on the streets of the city it will not be difficult to find two, three, or even four absolutely identical copies.

But seriously, the founder of the company, Adam Opel, has the right to be proud of his legacy. Let his name be called not the flagship of the brand, not a prestigious all-terrain vehicle, but just a small city car - I see no reason that will prevent Opel-Adam from becoming massively loved or even cult. Especially if the company determines the automatic transmission as quickly as possible. By the way, V-belt variators were also used to drive sewing machines. Buyers and old Adam would be happy!
