The taillights of the car are not just light-signaling equipment, but also an important design element. It is enough to stand in the evening traffic jam to appreciate the wealth of imagination of their developers. In most lanterns, the good old incandescent bulbs still shine, but here, unlike the headlights, there is a fair variety: single and double filament, base and baseless, at 21 and 5 watts, with colorless or colored glass. But outside the bulbs themselves, as a rule, they are not visible: the light from their spirals is scattered by thousands of lights thanks to the design of the reflector resembling crumpled foil. There are other solutions, such as a grooved diffuser. But the trend of recent years is still transparent smooth glass and a facet reflector.

At first, looking at the scattering of LED lamp replacements for flashlights, you are amazed at the diversity. The number of individual LEDs is sometimes measured in dozens, and they are located in very different places: either at the end, then on the sides, or on the drop-down panels of the "space station". But how to choose the right "lamp" for a particular car? We decided to check the LED lights in the Lada-Priora lantern and were disappointed: somehow it immediately faded and lost the look originally conceived by the designers.
We especially note: our medalist turned out to be the best only in comparison with other participants, but not with regular bulbs. In addition, in another lamp, the result may be different.

01. OLLO S25 W
4 white LEDs at the end, metal
Power Consumption 0.18 A
Estimated price 350 rubles
one

1–1

It was at this light bulb that two of four LEDs periodically went out or went out. It turns out that you will not go backing up in the dark, but you will not see a brake light or fog light!
02. OLLO S25 R
4 red LEDs at the end, metal
Current consumption 0, 075 A
Estimated price 350 rubles
2

Obviously weak even for side lights.
03. OLLO S25 Y
4 yellow LEDs at the end, metal
Current consumption 0.14 A
Estimated price 350 rubles
3

Comparison with the gluttonous original is not in favor of a fashionable replacement: such a turn signal is easy to overlook.
04. Starled 6G
15 red LEDs at the end and sides, “double-stranded”, metal
Power Consumption 0.19 A
Estimated price 590 rubles
four

This is at least visible, but again somehow. And it’s worth the money. Keep in mind, a base is used here with lock pins displaced along the axis.
05. Starled 7G - CHOOSE SP
12 white LEDs on the sides, metal
Current consumption 0.39 A
Estimated price 540 rubles
five

5–1

Perhaps the best option, this confirms the maximum current consumption. But note: in the flashlight of another model, the result may be completely different.
06. Type and manufacturer not specified
36 white LEDs at the end and sides, “two-strand”, plastic
Current consumption 0.20 A
Estimated price 300 rub
6

6–1

As a reversing light comes off at a stretch, as the brake light is not good. Base - with pins displaced in height.
07. “Mayak-12T25”
24 white LEDs at the end and around, plastic
Current consumption 0.13 A
Estimated price 170 rubles
7

7–1

It shines a little worse in the reversing light, better in the fog section. But still far from the standard.
08. Neither type nor manufacturer specified
12 yellow LEDs at the end, plastic
Power Consumption 0.035 A
Estimated price 35 rub
eight

On the price tag, this unknown "beast" was offered as a turn signal. But no one will notice such a signal!
09. “Mayak-12T25”
12 white LEDs at the end, “double-strand”, plastic
Current consumption 0, 075 A
Estimated price 60 rub
9–1

The bulb flatly refused to crawl into the regular hole in the lantern. The reason is the tides of plastic around.
10. "Lighthouse-12T15"
24 white LEDs at the end and around, plastic
Current consumption 0.04 A
Estimated price 40 rubles
ten

10–1

For the price and light. Few rubles - few lumens. Neither go back, nor disperse the fog, nor give a brake signal. But it’s easy to throw it away and forget it.
11. SHO-ME 5624-L
24 yellow LEDs at the end and around, plastic
Current consumption 0.16 A
Estimated price 330 rubles
eleven

Turn signal, maybe they will see. Let's say on a rainy winter night …
12. SHO-ME 5615-S
15 yellow LEDs on the petals, plastic
Current consumption 0.20 A
Estimated price 420 rubles
12

A miracle of engineering: five petals must first be squeezed, and then they themselves will open inside the lamp under the action of springs. But this does not help the bad light.
QUESTION ANSWER
Where should the LEDs themselves stand - at the end or on the sides?
It all depends on the design of the lamp. If it is of an obsolete type, with corrugated glass diffuser, then at the end and sides, so that the entire surface glows as evenly as possible. If the glass is smooth, the side LEDs irradiating the faceted reflector are more important. In general, in each case, individual selection is required.
Is it possible to change regular light bulbs to LED?
Flashlights are related to lighting equipment, your safety depends on their proper operation. The legislator has forbidden to make any changes to such nodes that are not agreed with the manufacturer. True, at the inspection, the light distribution of the lamps is not checked, as well as their brightness, maybe slip through. But is it worth the risk of the back of your favorite car if someone does not notice a dim brake light or turn signal?
How to choose the most suitable LED-bulb for my car?
Look at the photo: the question is very difficult! First you need to match the base. And the socles are of several types: with symmetrical pins of the bayonet lock, with the socle shifted along the axis of the socle and shifted relative to its diameter. The second problem lies in the extremely low current consumption of the LEDs. For the generator, this is good, but the turn indicator relay, most likely, will not work correctly - it will sharply increase the frequency of flashes. In addition, a number of models have a diagnostic system for incandescent lamps. Economical LEDs can be misleading - the indicator in the instrument cluster lights up. You can, of course, contrive and connect a load resistor of twenty watts parallel to the LED lamp, but do you need it?
