It is natural to assume that the new product will receive a proprietary set of SkyActiv technologies aimed at improving fuel economy, which has already been successfully tested on the CX-5 crossover, as well as on the Mazda6 sedan and station wagon. Considering that Mazda has not yet decided to supply SkyActiv-D diesel engines to Russia, the most interesting for us are SkyActiv-G gasoline units with a compression ratio increased to 14: 1. Almost certainly the best-known for the next, third, family (not counting the charged version of the MPS, if one appears in the line again) will be the already well-known 2-liter unit of the aforementioned family. Much more interesting, which engine will become the base? The SkyActiv adaptation for the 1.6-liter engine would have looked logical. Moreover, the path of "celestial technology" is already trodden, and there are no obstacles to their use on a smaller engine.

True, here lies one “but”. Mazda still relies on aspirated vehicles, citing the fact that their potential has not yet been exhausted. But no matter how the Japanese engineers pick up the compression ratio of gasoline engines, it’s harder and harder to compete with turbine units in terms of specific power and fuel consumption characteristics. But the technological backlog accumulating from year to year in this direction will certainly make itself felt.
However, SkyActiv is not limited to just one motor. It also includes gearboxes - first of all, an “automatic machine” with an extended period for locking the torque converter, and a lightweight body, in which the proportion of parts made of high-strength steels is increased.
