Audi Q5

Audi Q5 Audi Q5
The updated crossover has not changed much, but thanks to the radiator grill with beveled corners and LED strips in the headlights, it is impossible to confuse it with the previous one. Inside, the changes are even less: a different steering wheel, additional combinations of trim options. But most importantly - the opportunity to access the Internet. A modern car is nowhere without it.

We are already used to the fact that each car update is accompanied by bravura statements about increased efficiency. This trend was not spared by the Q5, which in comparison with the previous version consumes 15% less fuel (including thanks to the start-stop device included in the basic package), despite the fact that all the motors have become more powerful and more torque. So, the output of diesel engines increased by 3–7 hp, and the torque became higher by an average of 50 N.m. Flagship 3.2-liter V6 gasoline engine fired. Its place was taken by a 3-liter 272-horsepower “six” with a turbocharger. But the top version didn’t interest me much. It is much more interesting to get acquainted with the gasoline “four”: such Q5 are sold the most in all in our market.

The working volume is the same 2 liters, but the capacity has increased from 211 to 225 “horses”. The engine runs noticeably softer - in the cabin it is almost inaudible. It reaches peak torque at 1500 rpm. Moreover, the maximum thrust is maintained up to 4500 rpm - an impressive range! No less pleased was the way the engine got along with the ZF 8-speed automatic (Audi calls it Tiptronic), which replaced the robot with two clutches on gasoline versions. The current couple has a perfect understanding, they fit together like meat and red wine. Smooth, but always timely switching, excellent work in sports mode - the machine is able to "fall" from the eighth step to the third! But why this box is not relied on diesels (the robot remained with them)? The firm did not seem to know how to respond. Some assured that both transmissions are wonderful and you should not focus on one or another design (the painful issue of the reliability of the robot was not even discussed). Others hinted that the ZF made such a perfect box that most models would soon be supplying it.
An automatic 8-speed gearbox is the prerogative of gasoline modifications

But the thought expressed a little earlier seemed to me closest to reality. Say, everyone knows that a box with two clutches is sharper than traditional hydromechanical machines. This feature is not particularly annoying for Europeans with their driving style, but in China and America (the largest sales markets for Audi), drivers like the smooth operation of the transmission. There, the lion's share of sales falls on gasoline modifications, which is why they prepared softer-running machines for them. In Europe, most Q5s are sold with diesel engines, so they left the same type of transmission for them. Is logical.

What else? The chassis as a whole remained the same, but the characteristics of the springs and shock absorbers also changed for the sake of greater comfort. Another innovation is the electric power steering, which helps save about 0.2 l / 100 km. But compared with previous machines equipped with electrohydraulics, feedback has become worse. Is it otherwise to please the Americans?
After restyling, Q5, as usual, has risen in price, but not significantly. But the standard equipment of all versions, except the one with a basic diesel engine, includes leather trim. But not only Americans will like it. In Russia, skin is also respected …

NOT ABOUT US
Charged modification SQ5 stands apart. Firstly, this is the first S-crossover in the history of the company (previously only sedans, station wagons, coupes and convertibles were offered). Secondly, for the first time the “eska" is equipped with a diesel engine, not a gasoline. Moreover, the 3-liter biturbo-six is not installed on other crossovers. Power of 313 forces is enough to accelerate from standstill to hundreds in 5.1 s. This is quick, but the speed increase is not accompanied by an adrenaline injection: the diesel engine is more inert than the gasoline engine and does not respond as sharply to the accelerator as we would like. And the soundtrack does not warm the soul. In a word, it feels like it's just a powerful car, not a sports car. Although the SQ5 suspension is underestimated by 30 mm and also more rigid. Very tough! Even in standard mode, shaking is palpable, and in a sports car it becomes completely merciless - in Germany, with its excellent roads! Is that why they do not plan to deliver this version to our country?
