The machine on the “Grant” (in the future it will also go to the Kalina) is a proven unit of the Japanese company Jatko: four steps and no frills like manual shifting, winter or sports modes. Who went, say, to the Nissan Note, knows what kind of box it is. Its tuning under the “Lada” was handled by the Austrian company AVL.
The appetite of the automatic "Grants", according to AvtoVAZ employees, grew by 0.5 l / 100 km compared to the mechanics. But at the same time, the box provides the most dynamic ride. There is the so-called virtual fifth gear. When the accelerator is pressed smoothly while the fourth one is on, the electronics gives a command to partially open the torque converter - increased engine speeds, and with them the torque, add speed to the machine. At the same time, there is no plugging, as with the traditional shift to a lower gear. And acoustic comfort is better.
For the machine to take its place in the Grant, it was necessary to manufacture more than 30 original parts: brackets and bearings of the power unit, stiffer springs of the front suspension, wiring harnesses, and elements of the cooling system. The engine oil pan is now cast, not stamped. The machine made the Grant heavier by 33 kg, while the ground clearance decreased by 20 mm. Another 12 kg was added by an expanded set of Norma Plus equipment, which so far is only offered in combination with an automatic gearbox: air conditioning, anti-lock braking system with emergency brake assist and a passenger airbag.
It is unlikely that customers will receive the first cars earlier than the end of autumn; moreover, the circulation planned for this year is small - only 10 thousand sedans. In 2013, they will collect seven times more

The very first kilometers behind the wheel confirm that the work was done not in vain. Japanese girlfriend clearly liking the 16-valve 98-hp engine "Dzhatko" gently sorting through gears in a torn mode of movement and never left the car without a reserve of traction. True, without a fly in the ointment, Lada still can not: the body vibration is noticeable at stops in the “drive” mode. “Noticed,” says Sergey Medinets, the chief designer of Grants. “Well, the problem is familiar to us, we’ll still wander over the supports of the power unit.”
