Opel Mokka Opel Mokka
A string of cars in the parking lot attracted increased attention. Indeed, everything is as if painted under Khokhloma - such patterns on the body are made for disguise so that people around cannot clearly see the pre-production car with a memorable coffee name. It is unclear why all this, if the appearance was declassified in March, at the Geneva Motor Show? In front, the Mocha looks pretty much like the Meriva compact. But this is understandable: their design has a lot in common. It remains a mystery why the design of the rear end is so much like the “San Yong-Aktion” - you can’t tell it right away!
Perplexed front bumper - too close to the road. As if this is not a crossover, but some kind of coupe. The angle of entry is very modest (the exact number of opelevts did not name). With such a "blade" you can moonlight a snowplow. A joke, of course, but there is some truth in it. At the very least, I would beware of parking on the Mokka close to the curbs. Well, at least the ground clearance is quite normal for this class: 190 mm.
According to the creators, during the development they focused primarily on the "Skoda Yeti". In terms of size and characteristics, this is indeed the closest car. They also took into account the Fiat-Sedichi (analogous to the Suzuki SX4), but this car was too old for the opelevtsev. “Nissan-Dzhuk” is also not called a competitor - too cramped. “Mocha”, on the contrary, pleased with the spaciousness. Even on the back couch. There is enough legroom, the ceiling is high. But the width is not so loose - only two will sit down freely. The trunk is not bad: a wide opening, flat walls. But for the sake of a decent amount, it was traditionally necessary to sacrifice a spare tire, there is only a dokatka.
In Europe, Mokku will be offered with four engine options. Our base will be a 1.8-liter gasoline with a capacity of 140 hp. In a duet with him, 5-speed mechanics, the drive is only front-wheel. It was with this modification that I decided to get acquainted.
I sit behind the wheel, and around … "Do not pay attention to the finish, everything is done using workarounds, " the company employee anticipates my question. When looking at the contours, again recalls the “Meriva” - not the worst example to follow.
The interior is gorgeous for this segment. And the equipment did not disappoint. You can even order a tracking system for road signs

Despite the small size of the car, the landing is high - like in a real-life SUV. Good visibility, large mirrors - it is convenient to maneuver in tight spaces. The landing was also not satisfactory: the steering wheel is adjustable in two planes, the ranges of movement of the seats are impressive, and they are perfectly tailored - you will not feel tired even after a few hours. And practicality is on top: in the front doors there are a couple of pockets, there are cup holders, and in front of the right passenger there are two glove compartments at once. I will criticize only the dashboard glaring in the sun and the Z-shaped handbrake, which in the upper position rests on the armrest - it is inconvenient to tighten.
The engine surprised with a noise. “We have not yet worked on the soundproofing of the engine compartment. Everything will be tip-top in a production car,”the German once again defends himself. Well, sounds can really be muffled, but how to improve the dynamics? The car accelerates strainedly. You press on the accelerator, and acceleration does not become faster. Some kind of weak coffee turned out, does not invigorate. Another observation: the clutch grasps at the very end of the pedal stroke - I’m not used to it for a half-hour ride.
The suspension proved to be excellent. He regularly swallows the pits (imagine, they are found on the secondary paths of Germany) and bigger bumps (he looked for them, moving the starboard to the dirt roadside), but it works noisily. Maybe add insulation on the bottom? When the bumps came in a bend, the car swayed, but tenaciously kept the trajectory: the character is safe and at the same time reckless! Active driving in high, I feel the car one hundred percent. Excellent power steering, good stability margin and low rolls. In this discipline, Opel is no worse than Yeti.

Then I took a four-wheel drive version with a 1.4 liter turbo engine - such in Russia will be considered flagship. This machine is assembled at a higher level. There are no workarounds in the cabin. Rich interior! Leather, soft plastic, lining for titanium. The gaps are uniform and minimal. And the sound insulation here seems to be already serial. At least the motor is not so audible. Power - the same 140 hp, but the torque is much higher: 200 against 175 N.m, and is available in a wider range. Riding such a "Mocha" is much more fun. Peppy acceleration no longer raises the question: will I have time to overtake a not-so-quick fast ride or not? There is a 6-speed manual with this engine. It works just as well, but the clutch still works at the very last moment. By the way, this version is supplied not with hydro- but with electric power. It seemed to me that he gives the driver a little worse feedback. But the stability in the corners is higher: thanks to the rear independent suspension and all-wheel drive, such a Mokka holds the road tighter. On a dry surface, the habits are purely front-wheel. In difficult conditions, traction between the axles can be distributed in a ratio of 50:50. A 4 × 4 transmission adds 65 kg to the total weight.
A curious situation also happened: I spin the engine up to 5000 rpm on a straight line, release the accelerator to go one step higher, and the speed does not fall - it hangs, as if cruise control had turned on. I pressed the brake - everything returned to normal. Apparently, an electronics glitch that I want to write off to pre-production status. I hope that commodity cars will not present such surprises. By the way, they plan to produce Mokka at the Kaliningrad AUTOTOR, and it will go on sale closer to the end of the year.
Basic equipment is known: air conditioning, radio, cruise control, trip computer, four airbags. Cost - from 717 000 rubles. The price is normal, but until the machine appears, demand is unlikely to be high.
