Luxury SUV buyers should always have a choice. Do you want power? You are welcome! The dynamics? Get it, but you have to pay extra. Well, do you have a diesel engine? Infiniti did not have an answer to this question.
It was no coincidence that the presentation of the FX with the heavy fuel engine was arranged in Bavaria. The competitors - “Porsche”, “Mercedes-Benz”, BMW - such engines are held in high esteem. A diesel in a car of such a high class is a synonym for success in Europe. The Japanese came to the Old World only in 2008, therefore they are forced to catch up, but they do it quickly. For Russia, the appearance of a new product means expanding the gamut, which is also not bad, since FX is the leader in the lineup of the brand (3306 were sold in 2011) and it is necessary to increase the supply. We, too, are gradually becoming aware of the advantages of fuel-efficient engines. According to forecasts, by 2016 the share of diesel engines in the segment will grow by 4%. And the struggle for buyers will unfold serious.
The three-liter V9X engine is a product of the Renault Nissan Alliance. The block is cast from modified cast iron, which gives it 75% more rigidity than a conventional alloy part, and the mass is reduced by 22%. A torque of 550 N.m is already available at 1750 rpm. The 5-liter gasoline V8, the most powerful in the lineup, has 500 N.m at 4400 rpm.

The first impression of the FX is smooth and pleasant. Floating through the streets of Munich, like a ship, in a car stream, in German correct. I’ve heard no rattling at idle, but I just added gas - I hear the “gas” bass. The exhaust system was specially tuned, achieving a noble sound. The suspension is tight, but not stiff, although the SUV is on 20-inch wheels (their design has been changed this year). But in Russia, with its quality of asphalt, sensations can change. Acceleration is confident and equally comfortable. On an unlimited autobahn, the car easily holds 170 km / h, without annoying with yaw or swinging. The average consumption of 11.4 liters per hundred when driving around the city, winding rural roads and highways is quite acceptable.
Diesel FX is suitable for those who travel a lot and are indifferent to very fast acceleration. But will they buy a car in Russia? It depends on the marketers whose task is to create the appropriate image. Prices for this class are not sky-high - from 2 590 000 to 2 954 000 rubles. The main thing is that the all-terrain vehicle withstands competition with the Germans. After all, here they are selling diesel cars with might and main. An example has infected the Japanese. But they, as in Europe, will have to catch up, and this is always not easy.

The main external difference of the 2012 model year FX is the radiator grill in the style of the Infinity Essence concept (photo above) presented at the 79th Geneva International Motor Show. His 600-horsepower gas-electric engine seemed to hint: expect something sporty and powerful in the model range.
This “something” will be the “FX Vettel” (FX Vettel, photo below) with a 420 horsepower 5 liter V8 (ЗР, 2012, No. 1, p. 127), which will turn from a project into a product. Now they are discussing the quota of cars for Russia in 2013 and prices.
The exclusive created by the creative director of the brand, Shiro Nakamura, in collaboration with the Red Bull Racing team and its first number, two-time world champion in Formula 1 racing, Sebastian Vettel, will be more expensive than a regular car equipped with a 5-liter engine. And for the buyer they will arrange a special trip to the Grand Prix stage or to the team’s headquarters.
