The next Octavia will be the second after the Skoda Rapid production model, made in the new corporate style, developed by the chief designer of the brand - Joseph Kaban.
Strictly speaking, the promising Skoda design was announced last year - at the Geneva Motor Show, where they introduced the Skoda Vision D. Concept. Since then, there have been a myriad of guesses and assumptions about the appearance of future Skoda and primarily Octavia, which were based precisely on the exterior of this concept car. However, recently the photos of the completely finished body of the new Octavia “in metal” got on the Internet, and our artist painstakingly recreated the look of the future production car on them.

Gradually, more and more information appears on the technical specifications of the Skoda Octavia, which will be presented to the general public next year. It was developed on the latest MQB modular platform - most Volkswagen Group models will be built on it starting with the new Audi three-wheel drive and the seventh-generation Golf, which will be shown in the fall in Paris. The new Octavia will add significantly in size: the wheelbase will grow by 40 mm (up to 2620), and the length - by as much as 60 (up to 4630). Weight, by contrast, will decrease by an average of 80 kg. As before, it will stand out among the platform's concern models with an enlarged rear overhang and, accordingly, a more capacious trunk. In the version with the station wagon body, its volume will reach about 1, 500 liters with the rear seats folded, but the Octavia Combi will appear no earlier than 2014.

The line of powertrains, which will be equipped with the third Octavia, will seriously change. Most likely, the base will be the TSI family gasoline engine with a capacity of 1.2 liters and a capacity of 105 hp. The next step is the 1.4-liter TSI with a return of 122 and 140 horses. And the 1.6-liter unit with a capacity of 90 hp should enter the gamut of diesel engines. and a 177-horsepower 2.0 liter.

A more compact and affordable Rapid sedan will appear in the model line of the Czech company this year, and its official premiere, like Golf, should be held at the Paris Motor Show. There is also a version of Skoda Rapid, which is already being produced in India. But in reality it is just a stylized VW Polo sedan redesigned using the style of the current Fabia. The European Rapid, however, is also built on the "trolley" of this model, but the bodywork is very different. Firstly, it is longer - 4480 mm versus 4360. Secondly, it is a hatchback with a sloping rear (sometimes such a body is called an elevator, but this is not entirely correct, since this name was patented by Toyota back in the eighties of the past century). Well, and thirdly, it is not an extended version of the hatchback, but an absolutely original design, thanks to which it not only became more spacious in the cabin, but also turned out to be a trunk with a truly record volume for the class - 550 liters.

In 2008, Joseph Kaban, formerly working in the Audi design department, and even earlier working on the exterior of the Bugatti Veyron coupe, took over as Skoda chief designer. The wild boar is from the Slovak city of Namestovo. In 1991, he graduated from the Bratislava Academy of Fine Arts and Design, and then became a Master of Arts at British Royal College of Art in Automotive Design. Josef Kaban's works were awarded the Giorgetto Giugiaro Prize for Innovation in Design.
The Vision D concept, developed under the guidance of Kaban, embodied the new corporate identity of the Skoda brand, in which the design of new models of the Czech automaker will be executed. The basis of the style of modern Skoda cars will now be clean laconic lines with an abundance of angles and pronounced faces. In contrast, the interior design promises to be more airy and not as strict as before. However, making your own opinion is easier on the design sketches given here.
