The new i30 is an amazing car. His salon is thought out to the smallest detail, he envelops with care, like a separate chamber in the house of party veterans (do not ask which one). Non-annoying backlighting of instruments, keys and displays, high-quality finish, spaciousness in the front seats. Nothing presses and does not constrain. Even when a large transparent sunroof is mounted in the roof. Behind, by the way, in the new model it is not so easy as in the outgoing one - despite the increased length with the wheelbase unchanged (the whole increase went to the trunk).
A little treatise can be written about the thoughtfulness of the i30 interior. Here are some typical examples of a previously unseen concern. The automatic climate control mode (by the way, it’s double, before in the Russian i30 there was no such luxury either) offers two options: normal and soft. The latter - so as not to blow. And this is not to mention the Auto mode for all windows, the ears of the trunk floor, which allow you to throw a trifle into the underground without lifting the entire panel, two 12-volt sockets on the front panel and another one at the back, all kinds of inputs for external music sources and even deliberately large control keys for everything you can on the center console.

My i30 is in the top-of-the-range Elegance configuration, where it has the maximum possible equipment, including navigation with a touch screen (perhaps its management is the best in the class), popping up from under the rear-view camera logo (just like the Volkswagen), engine start button and adaptive headlights. Who would have thought that I would ever find all these things in a Hyundai brand hatchback! Perhaps the best set of options I have not seen in any model of the compact class. The more accessible version of "Comfort" also impresses with a rich list of equipment. And what! Power driver's seat, light sensor, electromechanical handbrake - the top level of the compact class offers.
But what the hell is all this fun will cost ?! Apparently, a lot. Especially when you consider how the price soared for the new generation of "Elantra", which, by the way, does not exceed the i30 in equipment, and in some ways is clearly worse. For example, for the "Elantra" is not offered either a handbrake or electric driver's seat. By the way, the current i30 is nothing like the Elantra without a separate trunk. But the hatchback is decorated with great chic, and, it seems to me, fifty will be thrown to the price of a sedan, which means that the maximum price of the i30 will be at the level of 900 thousand … And the minimum, with a 1.4 liter engine, six hundred and fifty thousand …
The i30 assault rifle in the Elegance and Comfort versions, by the way, is already in the standard - another clear indication of the market place of this model. The automatic transmission of the i30 has finally become six-speed and with the possibility of a full manual gear selection, instead of an outdated scheme with a limited range of switching. The previous four-speed gearbox was good until the last days, but today, against the background of various robots with two clutches and other options for intelligent control of the change in torque, its capabilities are already exhausted.

Here's a strange example, it’s kind of like from another world - a button on the steering wheel, the steering wheel icon and marked. If at Ford Focus, for example, in order to change the amplifier settings - to make them more relaxed or, on the contrary, to tighten them up - you have to climb into the on-board computer, then on the i30 it is enough to press a button. For the first time I come across such a straightforward approach to controlling the characteristics of an amplifier. In fact, this is a completely meaningless option. After 40 km / h, comfortable settings merge with the standard ones, and those are already initially indistinguishable from sports. And after half an hour of driving, you forget what you turned on and when. In any mode, the transparency of the steering wheel and the progressiveness of the increase in effort here are far from ideal. Even despite the rear multi-link suspension, the i30's character is vicious. The car is soft and safe, like a carpeted staircase, and begins to slide the front end long before the real danger.
At the driving presentation, only the most powerful versions of the engines were presented. Gasoline - a kind of well-known engine with a working volume of 1.6 liters, now it is equipped with direct injection, develops 135 hp and begins to hibernate after 3500 rpm. The fact that this engine will not be on Russian cars does not reassure me: the usual 1.6-liter 130-horsepower designed for the Russian gamut, I remember very well from the previous generation - he has the same character (though before, his power was 123 hp). An equal-volume turbodiesel with a capacity of 128 forces revived the relationship with the car somewhat. But fuel consumption! Yes, the diesel version was equipped with an automatic (which turned out to be surprisingly lazy) against the manual box on a car with a gasoline engine, but the gain in consumption, all other things being equal, was … one tenth of a liter. However, a diesel hatchback is not planned to be delivered to Russia yet. Maybe for the better.

But what to summarize? “You know, I don’t feel at all that this is a Korean car, - a normal European hatchback. If there were no emblems, I would never say that I was going to Hyundai!”- these significant words my colleague said in almost complete silence. Sound insulation of the new Korean brand hatchback is decent. Of course, with the increase in speed, both the engine and the whistle of the wind become audible, but at city speeds the i30 rolls to itself and rolls, without revealing a gasoline or diesel essence.
Previously, the i30, offered in Russia, did not stand out from its rivals. Unless even in the simplest version there was already air conditioning, heated seats, power windows and everything else, for which German and Japanese cars were supposed to pay extra. In the new generation, everything is the same: a radio, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with music control buttons and the above are the most basic equipment. Two cons. The first - in the standard there are only two airbags, and not six, as before. The second is a dead 1.4-liter engine of 100 forces, which, apparently, after the announcement of the advertising price will disappear from the prices along with this package. And the Russian Hyundai representative office indirectly confirms this possibility, considering that there will be very few cars with a 1.4 liter engine. The next level, “Optima”, in addition to the 1.6-liter engine, adds side airbags, a stabilization system, a full-size spare tire and a few little things. Automatic - for a fee. Here in this performance i30 will be the most popular. Moreover, only in Optima is a combination of a 1.6 liter engine with a six-speed manual gearbox available. Maybe I'll buy one. Someday.
