A similar model has been produced in China by the Dongfeng Peugeot factory since the beginning of 2010 and has been sold since the spring of the same year in parallel with another sedan, the 308 model, a smaller size (length - 4558, base - 2612 mm). By the way, we also got all the dimensions of the novelty from Chinese sources - there are no official data on “our” car yet. In the Chinese market, it is equipped with 1.6 and 2.0 engines with a capacity of 106 and 147 hp, a 4-speed automatic transmission or a 5-speed “mechanics”.
The same car is made in Buenos Aires and sold in Latin America since April 2011.

Of course, the Russian version will technically differ from the Chinese and Latin American versions. Our 408th is adapted for local climatic and road conditions. Adaptation, most likely consists in installing a larger battery and a slight increase in ground clearance. According to Peugeot, the 408th has already passed "multiple" testing in the Urals and even in the Arctic. The base engine for the new model is likely to be the 120-horsepower gasoline 1.6 VTi.

We expect the cost of the Russian Peugeot 408 in the range of 550, 000 - 750, 000 rubles, and it will compete with such popular models as the Ford Focus, Chevy Cruze, Renault Fluence and, probably, the future Nissan Almera. Also, as we already wrote, at the same time, at the PSMA Rus plant, they plan to begin production of the Citroen soplatform sedan, which was named ID (see the article “Identification of Citroen, “Driving in the Region”, No. 3/2012, p. 12– 13).
