The statistics of road accidents in Russia consistently show a disappointing picture of the high level of mortality and injuries. Therefore, at the level of the Government of the Russian Federation and the Commission on Modernization and Technological Development under the President of the Russian Federation, it was decided to create a system designed to minimize the consequences of accidents and increase the safety of freight and passenger traffic in Russia. The system is called ERA GLONASS.
What is the ERA of GLONASS
ERA GLONASS is a unified federal emergency response system for accidents on highways, which, starting in 2013, should be operational throughout the Russian Federation.
The task of the ERA GLONASS system is to automatically call rescue services in the event of an accident. This task is solved by special navigation and communication equipment, which is installed on cars.
ERA GLONASS equipment consists of a navigation and communication module connected via cellular communication channels to the server of the dispatch center. The equipment transmits control information from the car to the server of the dispatch center in real time.

The dispatch center is a key element of the GLONASS ERA system, it operates daily and around the clock. In the event of an alarm, the operator of the dispatch center will send rescue teams to the scene, the coordinates of which are determined by the signals of the global navigation system GLONASS.
Interaction with the operator of the dispatch center significantly reduces the time of arrival of operational services to the scene, since in this case they are given the exact coordinates. Experience shows that the response of the Emergencies Ministry, traffic police and Ambulance units to the signal received from the operator of the emergency response system occurs clearly and quickly.
In practice, the implementation of the ERA GLONASS system means that victims of an accident will receive prompt assistance, wherever they are in Russia, even if they cannot call it on their own.
The principles of operation of the ERA GLONASS
In the event of an accident, the ERA GLONASS terminal automatically determines the coordinates of the injured vehicle using signals from GLONASS satellites, establishes communication with the server center and transmits data about the accident via cellular communication to the operator. Upon receipt of a signal about the accident, the voice operator is trying to clarify the details of the incident and, in case of confirmation of information or in the absence of a response, sends emergency services - rescuers of the Ministry of Emergencies, Emergency Medical Services, traffic police traffic police. The driver or passengers can also manually turn on the device, transfer data and contact the operator.
