VW Passat Alltrack

Beginner Alltrack from the Volkswagen Passat station wagon is distinguished by a plastic body kit along the lower perimeter of the body, increased by 30 mm clearance (it reached 165 mm), large angles of entry and exit (increase of about 2.5 °), metal protection for the engine, gearbox and part of the exhaust system. And rims: the standard 17-inch Valley and the optional 18-inch Canyon.

In addition, Alltrack has an adaptive chassis control system (DCC) that constantly monitors the condition of the road, responds to acceleration, braking and steering turns and adjusts the stiffness of shock absorbers. By default, the suspension operates in Normal mode, but you can select Sport or Comfort by pressing the button to the right of the gear lever.

It is interesting that DCC exists in the European version of the “regular” Volkswagen Passat, but they don’t deliver such cars to us because of the poor quality of roads. However, Alltrack is a completely different matter. The increase of 30 mm only seems insignificant.

Do not rack your brains
At Alltrack, two diesel engines 2.0 and two gasoline engines, 1.8 and 2.0, two 6-speed gearboxes (the usual mechanical and robotic DSG) were prepared for the European market. And abroad Alltrack can be front-wheel drive. Europeans can sympathize: they will have to rack their brains when choosing a car. We got rid of these torments. In Russia, Alltrack will be sold only with a 210-horsepower gasoline TSI, DSG transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive system. And the only equipment is Variant Comfortline. The cost is called preliminary, but most likely it will not change - 1, 491, 000 rubles. Naturally, the price is indicated without taking into account the numerous optional equipment.

Talking about how this car behaves on ordinary roads, especially in Austria, where the presentation took place, is simply boring. There is nothing to complain about. Even the often-criticized DSG combined with the 210-horsepower TSI on Alltrack proved to be great. There is also nothing much to say about the operating modes of the chassis, since in Sport the car remained quite comfortable, and in Comfort - quite assembled. To assess DCC, you will have to wait for the start of Russian sales and how to shake Alltrack on different roads. And not only…

Our time is up
We were not allowed to enter the “off-road” site prepared by the organizers of the presentation, since the thaw had begun the day before, and mountain trails became unsafe. They apologized: "the weather is beyond our control." But the roads of any quality, even very dubious, have already obeyed - thanks to the off-road driving system. It is activated at speeds up to 30 km / h. The reaction to the accelerator pedal changes, allowing you to more accurately dose traction, and the DSG starts to hold the selected gear. The differential is retuned. When driving on long slopes, Hill Descent Control is automatically turned on and cruise control is turned off. During the descent, the braking mode changes, it becomes sharper - so that the wheels "grab" the so-called braking wedge. Among cars Volkswagen Alltrack became the first with Off-road-system. It does not turn the Passat into an SUV: there is 165 mm clearance and a large base … Alltrack is an all-road car.

All wheel drive system
Thanks to electronic control and an electro-hydraulic clutch, the 4Motion all-wheel drive system is capable of transferring torque from one axis to another in a split second. Usually priority is given to the front axle, which accounts for 90% of the thrust. But in some situations (for example, when towing a trailer) the whole moment can go to the rear axle.

- You can only envy those who choose Volkswagen Passat Alltrack, when it appears on sale. Moreover, we already have a portrait of the buyer: he is a relatively young, family, passionate lover of travel and skiing and, importantly, a wealthy person. The price set for the Russian Alltrack allows you to say this clearly. Even the Volvo XC70 and Subaru Outback are cheaper. And the Skoda Octavia Scout looks like a “state employee” against such a background. So Volkswagen has a difficult struggle for the buyer. But Alltrack is well armed for this. It is a pity that only the Russians were not given a choice of versions. Someone might be interested in diesels, and a 170-horsepower gasoline engine, and manual gearbox, and even front-wheel drive.
