The Granta model (read, a very seriously redesigned Kalina sedan), according to VAZ marketers, should soon become the most affordable car in the production program of the Volga Automobile Plant. And the updated Kalina will take place half a step higher, turning into a kind of "low-cost premium." Moreover, the border between the two models of the same class was drawn not only in terms of prices and equipment, but also in body types. Lada 2190 (aka Granta) will be available only as a sedan, while Kalina, on the contrary, only as a Lada 2192 hatchback and Lada 2194 station wagon.
Running prototypes of such machines are already being tested in Togliatti. True, so far these are the so-called mules, in which part of the body parts from Lada Granta. However, they give an idea of what a serial wagon will be like.

With the exception of the doors, Kalina will receive other exterior body panels and new front and rear optics. At the station wagon, the configuration of the rear body post and the third side window will change, and the taillights will go into the sidewalls. The front of the updated station wagon and hatchback will be the same. Kalina will have a chrome decor and LED running lights in the form of boomerangs covering fog lights.

As you know, Granta and Kalina are based on the same platform. But in preparation for the production of the Granta sedan, it was modernized. It would be a sin not to take advantage of this work in the process of updating the Kalina family. So the station wagon and hatchback will surely get a new steering rack, and a front suspension with an increased caster, and engines with a lightweight connecting rod and piston group.

It is difficult to judge the size change in absentia, but it is possible that the rear overhang of the station wagon will increase. And almost certainly the volume of the trunk will increase (including due to the new panel of its floor).

Most likely, Kalina will receive seats and door trim from luxury Granta designs. She will also get a dashboard from the top Lada Granta. This unit will receive a large color display in the center, between the speedometer and tachometer scales. Other differences are improved sound insulation and some options not available on the sedan.

Photos of the running prototypes of the updated Lada Kalina clearly indicate that the hatchback will also receive a completely new feed. In particular, the integral rear bumper will become different, in the lower part of which an insert will appear similar to the insert on the station wagon. Dramatically change the rear lighting. And although it still remains vertical and retains its placement on the roof racks, the lights themselves will be larger and, like the station wagon, crawl to the sidewalls. LEDs will probably appear in the filling of the lamps. The tailgate will also change: the stamping, forming the niche of the license plate, will now become noticeably larger and will acquire a wide decorative strip - it is likely chrome plated.
