Rear-wheel drive, mechanics and an amazing feeling: the car is part of my body.
Leafing through a chubby press release dedicated to the sixth generation of "treshka", I suddenly remembered that meeting. Among the detailed descriptions of electronic systems, design, and trim options, information about the engine and suspension was lost. Here I am, getting used to the skin of a successful manager, trying on a chocolate-colored sedan, like an expensive suit. And sits well! The dimensions of the machine compared with its predecessor increased: length by 93 mm, and the base by 50 mm. Hence the greater comfort. In the chair you can sit as you please - even under the roof, at least "on the floor", even with outstretched legs. Being played by electric adjustments of a lumbar support and rollers of lateral support, it is easy to turn a soft seat into a dense sports "bucket". But the mirrors in the visors are too small.

Using the iDrive system, I configure the navigation, the map of which is displayed on the central monitor, and start. Speed limit signs and direction arrows are displayed, as in older BMWs, on the windshield. This class is new. The system is convenient, but its German thoroughness is confusing a couple of times: I turn it off earlier than necessary.
In a turn, I shift a little more to the right - and I feel a delicate vibration on the steering wheel: the tracking system for road markings reminds of caution. The device consists of a camera mounted on the windshield (sees approximately 50 m), a control unit and a signal generator, which knocks the shiver out of the steering wheel. It turns on at 70 km / h and works even in the dark, with the headlights on. It is already possible to say, cufflinks to a suit - they are bought separately.
In general - solid, comfortable, safe. A two-liter supercharged diesel pulls the car uphill, like a tired clerk crawling from work. At traffic lights, the engine is shut off by a start-stop system, which is part of the basic equipment. The character seems to have disappeared.

The point is the settings switch, which is in all versions. Pressing the button changes the character of the car: a business jacket turns into a good racing jumpsuit. Each of the four modes (ECO PRO, Comfort, Sport and Sport +) has its own responses to the gas pedal, the stiffness of the shock absorbers, the characteristics of the power steering, the algorithm of the automatic transmission and the threshold of the DSC stabilization system.
Food in the most economical mode ECO PRO. The machine switches to overdrive early, a sharp press on the gas pedal the car is ashamed, trying to save every drop of diesel fuel. I think for Russia this regime should be called winter. And put behind Sport +. Slowly we don’t drive a BMW; they don’t think about the environment like in Europe. And the name “winter” is quite neutral. It will help to drive the rear-wheel drive car more safely and not be known among friends as a slow-moving vehicle. Well, the money saved on fuel, let them remain a little secret of the owner.
I choose Comfort mode, and the nature of the sedan changes. One by one, the companions are left behind. Shift paddles clear, without jerking. Trajectory - verified. Information about the road is sensitively transmitted through the sharp steering wheel. By the way, the ruts increased in comparison with the predecessor (plus 37 mm in the front and 47 mm in the rear) make the “three” stable in turns. And here it is, a welcome feeling: the car becomes a part of me! But there are also other modes.

RED STITCH
The true character of the German sedan revealed on the Circuit de Catalunya, which met us on a fine day. Now I have a red BMW in the Sport version with a 245-horsepower gasoline engine. A red thread runs along the black leather of the seats. A Sport + flashes on the dashboard. Active Protection automatically tightens the seat belt. I am drowning myself in a chair.
The car breaks down from the pit lane. How much these modes change the behavior of the car! From a meek, eco-friendly character, there was not a trace left. Braking, turning … The ZF submachine gun steadily adds gear when the tachometer needle has almost reached the red zone. Despite a wider range of gear ratios, jumps in speed during shifting became less thanks to eight gears. By the way, the automatic transmission is similar in size and weight to the mechanics. And at the Nurburgring, the treshka with a gun turned out to be not only more economical, but also faster than the mechanical version!
A short left and a long right drawbar, where the seat belt constantly controls me, pulling me to the back. Then a series of braking, where the machine is late with switching down. It’s more convenient to work with steering columns. True, on intense decelerations, sometimes I do not have time to stick the desired gear. There are eight of them! I turn off the dynamic stability control system DSC, and this adds pleasure. You can turn the car gas, without feeling the condemnation of your intentions by smart electronics. Wheels with Bridgestone Potenza tires, 19-inch, excellent grip. On a regular road, they are noisy and tough, but here - just right! By the way, in the Sport version, the size of the wheels in front and behind is different: 225 / 40R19 and 255 / 35R19, respectively.

SEWING PRICE
World sales of "treshki" begin on February 11. Cars from Germany will be brought to us only until the moment when they build the assembly in Kaliningrad. The price of a car with a diesel engine and mechanics is from 1, 475, 000 rubles. For the 328i model with a gasoline engine, they will require 1, 650, 000 rubles. The most powerful version of the 335i with a 3-liter “six” and mechanics will cost 1, 900, 000 rubles. The opportunity has been promised to supplement the sedan with a branded sports package M. In early autumn, the station wagon starts in Europe, and in October there will be a hybrid version of the ActiveHybrid 3 sedan with a power plant with a capacity of 340 hp. (250 kW).
