Speed limit signs and direction arrows are displayed, as in older BMWs, on the windshield. This class is new. The system is convenient, but its German thoroughness is confusing a couple of times: I turn it off earlier than necessary.

In a turn, I shift a little more to the right - and I feel a delicate vibration on the steering wheel: the tracking system for road markings reminds of caution. The device consists of a camera mounted on the windshield (sees approximately 50 m), a control unit and a signal generator, which knocks the shiver out of the steering wheel. It turns on at 70 km / h and works even in the dark, with the headlights on. It is already possible to say, cufflinks to a suit - they are bought separately.

In general - solid, comfortable, safe. A two-liter supercharged diesel pulls the car uphill, like a tired clerk crawling from work. At traffic lights, the engine is shut off by a start-stop system, which is part of the basic equipment. The character seems to have disappeared.

By the way, the ruts increased in comparison with the predecessor (plus 37 mm in the front and 47 mm in the rear) make the “three” stable in turns. And here it is, a welcome feeling: the car becomes a part of me! But there are also other modes.

The true character of the German sedan revealed on the Circuit de Catalunya, which met us on a fine day. Now I have a red BMW in the Sport version with a 245-horsepower gasoline engine. A red thread runs along the black leather of the seats. A Sport + flashes on the dashboard. Active Protection automatically tightens the seat belt. I am drowning myself in a chair.

The car breaks down from the pit lane. How much these modes change the behavior of the car! From a meek, eco-friendly character, there was not a trace left. Braking, turning … The ZF submachine gun steadily adds gear when the tachometer needle has almost reached the red zone. Despite a wider range of gear ratios, jumps in speed during shifting became less thanks to eight gears. By the way, the automatic transmission is similar in size and weight to the mechanics. And at the Nurburgring, the treshka with a gun turned out to be not only more economical, but also faster than the mechanical version!

It’s more convenient to work with steering columns. True, on intense decelerations, sometimes I do not have time to stick the desired gear. There are eight of them! I turn off the dynamic stability control system DSC, and this adds pleasure. You can turn the car gas, without feeling the condemnation of your intentions by smart electronics. Wheels with Bridgestone Potenza tires, 19-inch, excellent grip. On a regular road, they are noisy and tough, but here - just right! By the way, in the Sport version, the size of the wheels in front and behind is different: 225 / 40R19 and 255 / 35R19, respectively.
