Unlike the latter, the Skyactive D engine runs on A95 gasoline. I had to deal with detonation, but the problems were solved by changing the length of the exhaust manifold (reducing the volume and residual pressure of the exhaust gases), the notches in the pistons and the device for changing the length of the valves opening.

The ultra-low compression ratio for a diesel engine optimized the formation and combustion of the mixture, sharply reduced emissions of nitrogen oxides and soot, and also reduced the load on the parts, applied an aluminum cylinder block, lightweight pistons and a crankshaft. Two-stage turbocharging gave an increase in torque at low and medium revs. Possible deterioration in starting properties was compensated by powerful glow plugs and a mechanism for regulating the lift of the exhaust valves, which allows returning part of the hot exhaust gases to the combustion chamber. Skyactive G is just 4.5 l / 100 km in the combined cycle on the front-wheel drive CX 5 and a very low level of emissions achieved without special technologies (particulate filter, for example).
