At the wheel of various models of VAZ I spent a lot of time. It happened that he scolded the native auto industry for minor flaws and breakdowns, but so that it would meanly and unexpectedly kick the electric power steering, unceremoniously taking control - this has not happened in my practice. Although the editorial "frets" upset us before with the sins of the EUR, we didn’t get to extraordinary situations. “By the way”, it was recalled that last winter a similar problem arose at the Volkswagen Polo in Kaluga. His tendency to turn right for no reason was cured by flashing the control unit program.
The AvtoVAZ dealer, without going into details, without a sound, replaced the defective Priory electric power amplifier unit under warranty. Actually, the failure of the EUR, had it broken out of the blue, it would have remained an unpleasant, but only an operational episode, nothing more. But he, on the go, arbitrarily directed the car to the side, and this is a completely different story! We needed a manufacturer’s explanation. Having learned about what had happened, they immediately wanted to study the problem node at AUTO-VAZ.

The true cause of failure surpassed the wildest and even ridiculous assumptions. At the opening of the unit, it turned out that the rationalizers of the Kaluga Avtoelektronika plant independently replaced the expensive German microcircuit in the electronic control unit of the amplifier with a home-made (!) Circuit board with elements of unknown origin soldered in a makeshift way.
“Counterfeit!” - this was described by Yuri Zemskov, head of the AvtoVAZ special tests department. The quality management of the plant demanded explanations from Auto Electronics: where did such a creative solution to the problem come from? The innovators from Kaluga modestly explained: such a version of the block allegedly produced exactly the same parameters as the manufacturer approved. And if there is no difference, then why pay more? Moreover, this story is ancient (our car was assembled in 2010) and this unit has already been replaced on the conveyor with a more advanced model 702 EUR - this now stands under the hood of our Priora. Kaluga residents did not begin to coordinate with AvtoVAZ their rational proposal to reduce the cost of the previous amplifier. The input quality control at the car factory did not reveal any deviations from the original, and it is impossible to detect a block filling filled with a compound without opening it!
