In electric vehicles, the power source is a powerful battery. Compared to conventional motors, an electric motor has several advantages, namely, ease of starting regardless of temperature conditions, the ability to control speed over a wide range. The electric car does not require a gearbox and clutch, which greatly simplifies its design.

If the electric car is equipped with one engine, then the transmission of traction to the drive wheels is carried out using the rear axle of an automobile type (with differential). In the same cases when two engines are installed, each of them drives one drive wheel into rotation. This design, in particular, was used in domestic electric vehicles with a lifting capacity of 0.5 and 1.5 tons, the experimental batch of which was made by us. The design of the front axle of electric vehicles is usually the same as that of cars.

Electric car control is much simpler than a car, as its speed is controlled using only one device - the control controller. According to some operational indicators (noiseless operation, the absence of harmful exhaust gases, the use of electric energy instead of liquid fuel, ease of maintenance, low cost of repairs, etc.), electric cars are undoubtedly higher than cars. However, the relatively small range for one battery charge, as well as the inability at this time to install a more powerful battery without an excessive increase in the weight of the machine leads to the fact that electric cars are not widely used.

Long-term experience in operating electric vehicles abroad has shown that this type of transport is advisable to apply in those sectors of the economy where the radius of the car usually does not exceed 40–80 km (for example, mail transportation). Improving the performance of electric vehicles is inextricably linked with the problem of creating more advanced batteries compared to currently available batteries.
