To consider everything properly at the exhibition, of course, did not work. In addition, this car really wanted to try on the go. Some time later, we succeeded. And we went to the race track in Tushino, and as the “stove” from which to dance, we took the RS, a sports version of the Octavia in a body kit, with a 200-horsepower engine and a sports chassis. They decided to leave the “top” Octavia with the 152-horsepower 1.8 TSI alone: the difference with sports cars is obvious, the tuning there is more for comfort (as it should be for a large family hatchback).

By the way, our tuning car is also serial, it has a serial number 12 indicated on the dashboard trim strip. But the series is small, the cars in it are not identical. This instance with a gray body color received a coral red leather upholstery (show car, should attract attention).

Even with such an introductory difference with the standard RS is obvious. Due to a tighter fit in the Recaro “buckets” you feel better about the car, therefore it’s easier to drive. Lowered sports suspension and wide large wheels make the car more sensitive to uneven surfaces, but also stable on bends. The engine of increased power provides a gain in dynamics. But the greatest enthusiasm is caused by the giant brakes of the front wheels - it is impossible to be late with braking. However, it is easy to over brake, since the vacuum booster is left as standard. And for better balance, it would be nice to modify the rear brakes. And then the whole load falls on the "front" … However, the designers know better.

In the “snake” BT Race is better than RS: it rolls less, steers more clearly, it is easier to keep pace or slow down, speed up as desired. The tuning car is faster on the ring track, so it’s easy to get an opponent and get around it. My colleague and I competed behind the wheel of an RS and drag racing. Here the advantage was not so obvious, since success to a large extent decides the moment of launch, and a power difference of 50 forces does not guarantee victory. And by the way, the Swedes from Saab have long said that a reasonable limit for a front-wheel drive car is 250 forces. And while they did not take their words back. And they know what they are talking about.

Skoda Octavia BT Race - a cool car, the highest level of reasonable tuning for Octavia. It rides great, looks great (even with red skin). But neither I nor my colleagues would have bought one. Not only because we are not racers. And not because we don’t like everyone’s attention … Just RS costs from 1, 089, 700 rubles. There are no fixed prices for BT. It all depends on the customer’s imagination. Nevertheless, it is easy to estimate that all tuning will cost at least half a million more. And this is already higher than the base price, for example, VW Golf R-Line (with the same TSI, but already 270 forces, and 4Motion all-wheel drive) and equal to the cost of the Audi S3 (265 quattro forces) … Conclusion: BT is a car for Skoda fans, while very wealthy. In the Czech Republic there are such, but do we have?

Czech tuners
The brand was created according to a scenario typical of tuning companies. In 1993, the Czechs founded Benet sro, which sold parts for Skoda. On this base in 2000 was created Benet Tuning sro (Mladá Boleslav). Two years later, Italians bought 60% of the shares, and serial production of accessories for Skoda Auto began. In 2008, the company again became completely Czech and changed its name to Benet Automotive. A year later, a new production appeared in Milovitsa, and in 2011 it came to carbon. It is carbon fiber parts that are the subject of special pride of the company, and Skoda Octavia RS is abundantly decorated with them, which received the BT Race prefix in the Czech tuning studio.

- For me, the Skoda Octavia BT Race is interesting as an example of the fact that you can generally “squeeze” out of the Octavia, a car that was born a large family hatchback. The fact that the model is perfectly tuned has been known for a long time (as in general, most cars that come out of VAG). But this project is also interesting in that it is an example of the technical creativity of the “court” tuning studio, which until now has been known to units in Russia. The work is excellent, no doubt. But the concept itself is controversial. Like tuning itself …
