Suzuki SX4

Previously, front-wheel and all-wheel drive cars were delivered to us from the Land of the Rising Sun in the top-of-the-range GLX configuration and with an automatic transmission. They accounted for more than half of sales. Now their release has been established at the Hungarian Suzuki plant. There are several advantages from changing the place of production: Russian prices have become less dependent on the growth of the yen, and delivery times have decreased. Indeed, from Europe, cars reach us many times faster - in about three to four weeks (and not months).

By the way, the Hungarian "Suzuki" on the outside seem to be the same as their Japanese counterparts, but there are still differences between them: the "Europeans" have a different front bumper and a set of color options, two-tone upholstery, a battery with a capacity of up to 60 Ah, the antenna that moved from the rear of the body to the front edge of the windshield, the orange color of the lower section of the rear lights (instead of white), the square shape of the cup holders, etc. But most importantly, all-wheel drive cars have a 15 mm (up to 190) increased ground clearance.

These differences did not affect driving performance. SX4 is still perfectly stable, even the track rolled in asphalt does not unbalance the car. In corners, the Suzuki behaves reliably and predictably, the steering is informative - you always clearly understand and control the situation. If you overdo it with speed, the car begins to swim smoothly out of the turn. The electronic stabilization system is included in the work in a timely and delicate manner. The suspension itself is still harsh. She informs in detail about the condition of the roadway, but does not shake her soul. Only the level of acoustic comfort causes complaints: aerodynamic noises and rustling of tires are distinctly audible in the cabin, and at high speeds a mournful howl of the engine is added to them.

In addition to versions with the well-known 112-liter 1.6-liter gasoline engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed “automatic” it was possible to test the car with a 135-horsepower turbodiesel. The 2.0-liter engine from the Fiat's Multijet line perfectly fits the SX4. Already from 1500 rpm it pulls very cheerfully. The torque is more than two times greater than that of a gasoline counterpart (320 N • m versus 150) - just a small diesel locomotive. The average diesel fuel consumption was in the region of 6 l / 100 km, which was very pleased. Such a motor is offered to Europeans, and deliver it exclusively with a 6-speed "mechanics". The Russian representative office of Suzuki does not exclude that the SX4, equipped with a turbodiesel, will appear in Russia, but this will most likely happen no earlier than next year. I hope the promise comes true.

The plant in Esztergom has been operating since 1992. This year will mark the release of a two millionth car. The company is designed to produce 300, 000 cars a year, but now the plant is loaded only two-thirds. The Hungarian lineup includes the Suzuki Swift, as well as the twins Suzuki Splash / Opel Aguila, Suzuki SX4 / FIAT Sedichi.

Cars are assembled in full cycle. The process is almost completely automated. The body, for example, is welded exclusively by robots, there are about five hundred in this section. Most of the workers are engaged in the final assembly line.
The Russian market is one of the priority for Suzuki. Last year, 29, 000 cars were sold in Russia, plans for this year are even grander - 50, 000-60, 000 units, of which 13, 800 SX4 crossovers.
