For the second time in 45 years, AvtoVAZ is mastering the production of foreign cars. The first, as we know, in the late 60s was the Fiat 124 - now the legendary “penny”. For the first time, AvtoVAZ demonstrated this car at last year's Moscow Motor Show as a R90 project. In June, a pilot batch of five "Largus" left the modernized first line of the VAZ conveyor - the very one on which the VAZ-2101 was once produced. True, this five station wagons are intended for certification tests, and the serial production of Lada Largus in Tolyatti will begin in the first half of 2012 (according to some sources, in March).

Lada Largus is built on the B0 platform of the Renault-Nissan alliance. This is the first joint project of AvtoVAZ and the Franco-Japanese alliance. Externally, the car is not much different from its progenitor Dacia Logan MCV. In fact, the changes boiled down to the new grille and the Lada logos. The first five-and seven-seater passenger versions will get on the conveyor. A double freight van will appear later. All three options will be equipped with 1.6-liter engines in two versions - with eight and sixteen valves. However, according to rumors, vazovtsy are also actively working on a version with a hybrid power plant.

So far, only the estimated price range is known - from 340, 000 to 420, 000 rubles. For a roomy station wagon, designed for a large family, prices look attractive. Depending on the level of equipment, Largus equipment will include height-adjustable driver's seat and steering column, ABS, air conditioning and an audio system that can read MP3 files.

On July 20, 1966, a decree of the Government of the USSR on the construction of an automobile plant in Togliatti was signed. This date is considered to be the birthday of AvtoVAZ. Since then, 45 years have passed. Over the past time, the plant has produced more than 26 million cars. Today, the Lada brand occupies more than 25% of the Russian car market. In addition, AvtoVAZ exports cars to Ukraine, to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Egypt and European countries.
