Peugeot 308 Active

When the Peugeot 308 appeared on the road in 2007, it was difficult to find those indifferent to its unusual appearance. Someone liked the car before fainting, while others anathematized the new design. Compared to its predecessor, the 307th, it looked like a furious lion, ready to swallow anyone in its path with a huge air intake with a protruded “lip” of the front bumper.
Well, after a couple of years, the car, although it did not lose its unambiguous recognition, became familiar. They continue to buy it, but not for appearance, but for high consumer qualities. And everything would be fine if competitors dozed off. And they last year and this year released a number of new products: Mazda3, Opel Astra, Ford Focus and others. In order to keep up with them, the sales leader of this brand (the 308th in the lineup is 48%) urgently needed an update. And it took place - the 308th 2011 model year began to be sold in July.
Before restyling, the most powerful 150-horsepower versions (photo above) stood out from the rest (photo below) with a radiator grille with chrome trim. Now the bumper is the same for all modifications. Aggressive "mouth" of the air intake modested, but did not lose recognition. The updated 308th began to look more solid, and there is every reason for this - 48% of Peugeot's sales in Russia fall to its share

Other versions

Of course, Peugeot 308 is, first of all, appearance. It cannot be said that it was radically changed, but the model is now perceived differently. And the main reason is the other bumper, front fenders, headlights and hood. They have grown to the old fast-moving “body” like relatives! The expression of “face” became different: if not smiling broadly, then certainly not “biting”. The “lip” of the bumper did not become shorter, but now it does not “drag” along the asphalt, but surrounds the diminished air intake.
Front fog lights (in the basic configuration are formally absent, but in Russia are a free option) remained the same large parallelepipeds. But now they are in conjunction with the original daytime LED running lights in the form of boomerangs. What's new in front? Of course, the emblem. This is the same lion walking on its hind legs, but not flat, but embossed, on a black lacquer backing.
With the update of the 308th, a “modernized” emblem appeared on its hood - the lion became embossed, the black mesh substrate became smooth and glossy

In the profile, with the exception of the front, the bumper has no changes. Branded alloy wheels are only slightly different - they are now about seven, not about ten spokes. The back is also without special innovations: only new bumpers and decor elements - a raised lion, chrome trim on the trunk lid and a modified Peugeot logo that “moved” from the left side of the trunk lid to its center.
What's inside? Almost everything is the same. There are still three levels of equipment, but they have different names: the basic Comfort Pack now corresponds to Access, Premium - Active, and Primium Pack - Allure. ESP has become the basic equipment for the most powerful (150 hp) versions, the maximum number of airbags has increased to eight.
The top version of the Peugeot 308 is now, like in Europe, called Allure. By default, and regardless of the powertrain, it flaunts a panoramic glass roof and such “sporting” attributes as aluminum and perforated pedals and a slightly “truncated” steering wheel at the bottom

There are few technical changes. The most significant is the replacement in the Russian market of a 140-horsepower (1.6 liter) gasoline turbo engine with a 150-horsepower one. The thrust of this engine is akin to a diesel one - a wide “shelf” of maximum torque (240 Nm) extends from 1, 400 to 4, 000 rpm, and it already delivers 156 Nm at 1, 000 rpm. Attached is a new 6-band “automatic” Aisin AT6 with sports, winter and manual shift modes.
In the sports mode, the “automatic” is so quick and accurate in choosing the gear ratio that even on a mountain road, the manual mode is not particularly needed. The second gasoline unit is still developing 120 hp. and can be combined with both a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 4-band automatic, upgraded during restyling. Now there is a ZF torque converter with a higher efficiency than before.

This motor has a maximum torque of just 160 N.m and is achieved at high 4250 rpm. And although 90% of the power falls on 2500–5750 rpm to drive dynamically, the tachometer needle must be kept above 3500 rpm. There is enough motor power on a flat track. True, the “automatic” still “slows down”, although it has become a little quicker and softer when switching. But in the mountains severely affected traction deficit, and even multiplied by the extended transmission of the automatic transmission.
For more or less frisky driving uphill and effective engine braking, you have to use the manual mode, often drive in 2nd, less often in 3rd gear, and sometimes even resort to 1st services. Alas, on the serpentines this power unit is not a fighter at all.
Friends and strangers
In Russia, and after restyling, the Peugeot 308 can be bought with three types of bodies to choose from: a 5-door hatchback, a station wagon - 308 SW, a coupe-convertible - 308 SS.
The cabriolet coupe has also changed significantly from the rear - its feed is now much wider and more solid. We have 308 SS sold only in the Feline configuration (150 hp, 6-speed automatic transmission) for 1, 249, 000 rubles

Available power units are 1.6-liter gasoline engines with a capacity of 120 (5-speed manual gearbox or 4-band automatic) and 150 hp. (6-band “automatic”), also diesel - 92 or 115 hp (only with 6-speed manual gearbox). Moreover, hatchbacks with a 120-horsepower engine are sold to us from the Kaluga assembly, and all the rest are French. Prices almost did not grow, and the most affordable version with the “automatic” (120 hp) even fell by 13, 000 rubles.

(Andrey Kochetov, editor):
- No matter how trite it sounds, the 308th has become better. He has lost excessive external extravagance and aggressiveness, but he looks more solid. The most powerful gasoline engine and the new “automatic” are very well coordinated. The increased pulliness of the first and the agility of the second markedly changed the character of the car. Now the 308th can once again not be in a hurry to spur, but to enjoy the ride of "extra-tight".
