Like all ingenious, KDSS is pretty simple. In a closed circuit with hydraulic accumulators, valves and sensors, fluid circulates, passing through two hydraulic cylinders connecting the anti-roll bars to the body. If the car moves on a flat highway, all the valves of the system are closed, and the fluid loses the ability to move freely through the system. The pistons of the hydraulic cylinders are blocked, and the stabilizers are rigidly connected to the body, which as a result prevents rolls in turns. When the machine lands on broken asphalt, the accumulator valves open, compensating for sudden changes in fluid pressure, which can significantly reduce body vibrations.
On off-road electronics and completely turns off the stabilizers. All valves are open, the pistons inside the cylinders get complete freedom, and the suspension gains the ability to make maximum moves, providing the best grip on the wheels.
The driver does not have to go into the details of how the system works. He doesn’t even need to bother with switching modes - the electronic control unit itself knows what and when to do it. Those who were able to compare the behavior of cars with KDSS and without it unanimously say that the system, they say, allows you to feel much more confident both on the road and on a good road. And there’s nothing to say about turns: in a steep turn and at a good speed, the help of hydraulics that support the body in a horizontal position can be simply invaluable.
Developed in 2004, the system is highly reliable. As a rule, owners of KDSS cars have no complaints about its work. It is only necessary not to forget after 60-80 thousand km to change the fluid and check the pressure balance, but certainly with dealers who have special equipment and qualified personnel for this. Otherwise, the system simply ceases to “feel the way”.
When it comes to security, it’s not worth trifling. Even tangible, as it might seem at first, the overpayment for verification is not so much motivation. The price difference between Prado-Comfort without KDSS and the Elegance version equipped with it is considerable - 203 thousand rubles. However, this amount includes a host of other options, without which the luxury SUV looks like an impoverished graph - xenon headlights, threshold illumination, roof rails, parking sensors, a rear view camera, rain and light sensors, heated and electrically adjustable seats, and much more.
