Great Wall Hover H5

Plans are changing
For the first time I saw the H5 a year ago, at the Shanghai motor show. Regarding the prospects of entering our market, Great Wall representatives replied that the Russians would hardly like this design, therefore they would not deliver the “five” to us. As you can see, the plans have changed. The Chinese did not guess with the reaction of our compatriots to the design - the car clearly liked, if they look back at it.
However, behind the novelty is no different from the H3. But the former facade was dismissed - it was replaced by swift and elegant forms. True, as is often the case with the Chinese, there were some designer borrowings (the manufacturer calls this a rethinking or inspiration). The headlights are very similar to the Mazda CX-7 lighting technology, and the radiator grill is almost the same as the Nissan Murano. But overall, the H5 looks pretty good. What is inside?
The completely new interior for a Chinese car is very good: cute, well-assembled and does not seem cheap. Matte linings for titanium, pleasant to the touch dense dark gray leather … It is even more pleasant to see that during the development of the Great Wall salon emphasized not only the design, but also the improvement of ergonomics.
The interior is not just prettier than its predecessor - it has much less ergonomic punctures

The front seats are installed lower - the landing has become more natural, and more space has been added above the head. The seats themselves have acquired a more comfortable shape and offer - lo and behold! - quite tangible lateral support. But the keys of the electric drives are squeezed into a narrow - barely squeezing a palm - the gap between the chair and the door panel, and their motors howl so that you are involuntarily afraid.
Even the basic H5 is equipped very generously: ABS, frontal airbags, leather interior, climate control, rain sensor, power accessories, multi-function steering wheel, central locking, heated front seats and exterior mirrors, radio, parking sensors, fog lights and alloy wheels. There is even a rear view camera - a picture from it is displayed on a color touch screen. It is a pity, in bright sunshine, it greatly glare. Only one option - electric sunroof.
And the technique is not
The filling of the H5 is almost no different from the previous six-year-old Hover. The design is orthodox: the body on a powerful frame, rear dependent suspension. It is not surprising that the controllability of the “fifth” is far from the standards of modern crossovers. This one with a laziness reacts to taxiing, heels pretty much in turns, and if a bump or a hole gets in a bend, it jumps off the path.
Changing the four-wheel drive transmission modes with the buttons is convenient and simple

But on the off-road H5 is great! Long-travel pendants and excellent geometric cross-country ability to confidently move on very rough terrain.
Thanks to the “toothy” tires, I spent most of the time even on the roads using rear-wheel drive, and the front axle was connected only in deep ruts. Downshift activated only once, about to cross fifty meters of virgin snow. By the way, the choice of all-wheel drive transmission mode is made as easy as possible thanks to modern push-button controls. As for the lever of the five-speed mechanics, then, including the odd gears, now you do not touch the center console with a brush. It is only a pity that the lever, as before, unpleasantly itches and vibrates.
