In the beginning there was a letter. A regular email from the forum participants polosedan.ru, where we were informed that the hot news of the Russian market began to show a nasty feature: the steering wheel itself can turn to the side. Moreover, this problem, according to the forum participants, has already become widespread, but they did not answer anything intelligible in the service or in the representative office of the company. After reading the letter, I decided not to flog the fever, but to thoroughly clarify the essence of the problem - first of all, is it really there? After all, on the forums you often do not read it! And our editorial Polo, which had run 13, 000 kilometers by that time (most of them in the extreme mode of the “60 hours” marathon), being an instance from the very first batch, showed no signs of deviation.
But just a couple of days later, slowly moving in a traffic jam along the overpass, I suddenly felt that the steering wheel itself wanted to turn the car to the right! Not much, about fifteen to twenty degrees, but persistently - confirming his intentions with a noticeable opposition that was felt when trying to return him back.
The electric amplifier seemed to lose orientation, considering the zero position a slight deviation to the right. With increasing speed, the desire to turn the car began to increase. Having found a suitable place to stop, I turned off the engine and started again, hoping for a nullification of the error. And so it happened - the deflecting force on the steering wheel disappeared.

When I got to the editorial office, I immediately perplexed the Volkswagen representative office with a problem - they seriously attended and promised to find out the reasons. A few days later they called back: yes, there is a problem, and the case is indeed not an isolated one. The cause was a malfunction in the electric drive control program. But to eliminate the "glitch" it took time - to develop a new version of the software. Meanwhile, my Polo fled to the northern run, where for about two thousand kilometers it behaved approximately. But a couple of weeks after his return, the defect manifested itself again, and at the same place - on the overpass, a couple of kilometers from the house. Drowned, started - all is well.
By that time, Germany had already developed a new software for the amplifier, which should be free from this drawback. Since February 16, it began to be "poured" into all new cars on the conveyor. But what about owners of cars manufactured before this time? Since the new firmware was temporarily unavailable to services, some changed the entire amplifier unit under warranty. The rest, including myself, were waiting. Meanwhile, another surge in steering self-control was manifested after driving along the cobblestones, but the usual zeroing algorithm did not work - the parasitic force on the steering wheel did not disappear on the newly launched machine. I tried again - to no avail. Left the car in front of the store, returned in ten minutes - everything is in order! But by that time they had already called me from the Volkswagen plant in Kaluga and said that our Polo would be the first experimental to receive an updated version of the software right on the service. On the appointed day, a laptop was connected to my car through the diagnostic connector - they brought down the old firmware and immediately uploaded a new one, the whole operation took about ten minutes. There are no problems so far.
