Navigation systems

Far gathered?
Tip one: you need to choose not the navigator, but the program embedded in it! More precisely - a navigation system and a set of navigation maps (systems and maps - things are different). This is the first thing to learn. And here is the second advice: it is necessary to decide where we are going to ride with this navigator? This must be thought out even before going to the store, because there is simply no nature in the nature of a universal navigator, famously paving the route both along the Champs Elysees and around Vydropuzhsk. At least today.
Least of all problems will arise, as always, among Muscovites and Petersburgers. The maps they need a long time ago were worked out by almost all the major market players, and therefore, residents of the capital can afford to choose a navigator at least in appearance. Like, let’s get that little blue one … And the programs at the same time can be different. The menu is extensive in Moscow and the Central region of Russia: Navitel Navigator, iGO, CityGid and Progorod, specially tailored for large megacities.
Which program to prefer? In our opinion, iGO is not the best option: this Hungarian-Israeli creation does not know Russia well, because our country is not a priority for developers. On the route, of course, drag, but without shine. And it may well get confused in buildings, structures and other realities of the nation. In addition, there may be problems with map updates. However, iGO has a big plus: a super-simple interface. The standard of convenience! (Note that the creators of the same Progorod program were exactly on iGO.) It is clear that our programs, Navitel, CityGid, and Progorod, are well versed in our problems. If you are reluctant to delve into the intricacies of the interface, then it is better not to take Navitel, you cannot call it simple. As for our two capitals, the same experts assure that it is better to travel around Progorod in Moscow, and connect CityGid in St. Petersburg: you will know the time of bridging. The update is simple - via the Internet.
In short, in the future it is better to have several programs in the navigator. But for the first time you definitely will not need it.
The main feature of Navigon is OWN NAVIGATION SYSTEM

Not Moscow?
As you know, Moscow is surrounded on all sides by Russia. And how to find, for example, Lizyukova street in Voronezh? This is where serious difficulties begin and easy tips end.
Alas, there are no good regional maps for the whole country in Russia! What works in Bryansk can fool, for example, in Solikamsk. Say, Navitel works in the same Voronezh, but it starts to get confused in Upper Mamon, which is only 200 kilometers away. Large cities such as Yekaterinburg or Novosibirsk, as a rule, are well-drawn, but there may be problems with small ones. Therefore, the right advice for all occasions can be only one: a resident of each locality should determine by trial and error that he works better. It’s inconvenient, of course, but there is no way out: torment sellers, consultants, and other managers! Moreover, even the presence of, say, a Krasnozaborsk map in the navigation program does not at all entail sane detailing of this map and the relevance of the data on it. Two or three central streets can be marked on the map, moreover, according to the state of affairs of Gagarin’s flight.
Therefore, we repeat: find the opportunity to “browse” the card you are interested in on the device to check the degree of its detail and the accuracy of the information. Do not hesitate to find on the screen what you need in the first place - start at least with your own summer house! This is also true for residents of the Moscow Region: in the capital, the navigation system can work perfectly, but after a distance of fifty kilometers from the Moscow Ring Road, amnesia attacks often occur. Therefore, do not rush to climb over the wallet.
Some manufacturers of navigation programs to evaluate the accuracy of the maps by users have created special Internet pages (the so-called Web-GIS), on which all the maps included in the program are laid out. For example, “Progorod” has such a page: www.pro-gorod.ru/maps.
And when traveling through the regions, the advice unexpectedly simplifies: there’s simply nowhere to go, therefore you need to have at least two (preferably three) navigation systems at hand. And all because even the most successful cards may not coincide with what is visible outside the window. By the way, for this it is not necessary to buy two car navigators: some models of some brands - for example, all Lexand navigators - allow you to install several programs, switching between them as necessary. That is, you only need to buy a license for other navigation programs and put them on your existing navigator. Another option is to use a smartphone (“smart” phone) with a GPS receiver as a navigator. In this case, at least ten navigation programs can be “poured” into the device, since memory cards now allow this.

The choice of "iron"
Having finally figured out the programs, you can choose the navigator itself. This is already easier, because the seller will immediately offer you those models that support your chosen “math”. Structurally, they are very similar, so when choosing we advise you to focus on the screen size. Universal consider devices with a diagonal of 4.3-5 inches. On the big screen, of course, it is better seen, but there are also disadvantages - if you do not leave the navigator in the car, but carry it with you, then you should know that not everyone will fit into a handbag. Looking ahead, we say that very large navigators (for example, on the basis of the new-fangled "Ay-Pod") can shake when driving so that instead of relief they will cause only irritation.
The second screen requirement is resolution. Ask the seller to include several models at once and evaluate the difference. Do not notice, well, thank God. Noticed - get ready to pay a little more for a good picture.
You can not think about energy consumption. A modern navigator will last without recharging an hour and a half or two, so you still can’t do without a 12V socket. The same applies to the so-called “cork” service: in practice, you should not expect special assistance in avoiding traffic jams. In addition, any kind of "bells and whistles" is unlikely to be appreciated by a beginner. As for the appearance (the quality of the plastic, the size of the gaps, etc.), then everyone must decide how important this is for him. Estet more like Pioneer, Navigon, Lexand. But keep in mind: the iGO program will probably be installed in Pioneer - then, as they say, see point one …
HARMIN is an example of a small budget navigator with its own navigation system. His “trick” is DETAILED BOARD TOPOGRAPHIC MAPS

Mavericks
A separate niche is occupied by car navigators with a program of their own design “on board” - “Garmin”, “Tom-Tom” (TomTom), “Navigon” (Navigon). All of them are soundly made and work stably, but for the most part they “shy away” from Russian realities. The exception is Garmin, which takes into account domestic conditions, although it lags behind market leaders. Navigators of this brand are especially loved by fishermen, hunters and other off-road enthusiasts - for the availability of detailed topographic maps.
“Garmins” can be recommended to the city dweller, who likes to get out into the nature for one reason or another. They have a good base of relevant regional maps that may appeal to those who actively travel around the country - in this regard, Garmin can make a good competition with devices with Navitel Navigator.
Pocket Navigator has a rather large 5-inch screen

Glonass or GPS?
Let’s say right away: you can not think of a newcomer to the nationality of satellites! Imported products work with GPS, and all of our developments are two-system. But most of these two-system solutions are under development. According to forecasts, they will appear by the summer-fall of this year. It is important to simply know that one system does not replace another, but supplements it, increasing the actual accuracy of orientation - that’s all.
And it says - Thatcher …
And finally, the last tip. Stupidly relying on electronic tips in everything, we partially deprive ourselves of the pleasure of driving and sometimes even stop orienting ourselves on the ground. In addition, one can recall stories about blondes ramming the parapets of embankments, following the prompt of a stupid navigator. The navigator is an adviser, not a commander on the parade ground. However, to each - his own.
And one more thing: do not forget about regular updating of maps. Like any information, an electronic card tends to become obsolete, so it makes sense to update it at least once a year. Bon Voyage!
