New lobbying, and if quite frankly - barrage customs duties on used imported cars came into force in January last year. Most of the consumers living in the European part of Russia are unlikely to have felt the damage, but in the Far East, the government’s decision almost destroyed the foundations of a recently established business that fed a lot of people in the region. Not only the sellers of second-hand "Japanese women" suffered - they turned off the activities of companies that transported cars to the east of the country, maintenance, tuning … The idea, which at first glance seemed sound - to give the domestic auto industry products a chance to return to the Far Eastern region - has not yet worked: demand for " frets "here is still scanty. And at the same time, foreign companies, with rare exceptions, do not even try to enter this market.

A half percent of novelty

According to the Avtostat analytical agency, in the entire Far East (here, on a territory larger than the whole of Europe, only 5% of the Russian population lives) in 2009 only 6.5 thousand new cars were sold - less than 0.5% of the total Russian market. Most implemented "lad" (1715 cars). But there is nothing to rejoice about: almost 85% of the sales volume falls on the old “fields” (“Lada 4 × 4” - 860 units) and “classics” (583 units). But the new AvtoVAZ models - “Prioru” and “Kalina” in the region are categorically not taken (they were sold 79 and 54 pieces respectively). In second place, of course, Toyota - 1, 455 units. The most popular new car in the region - you won’t believe it - Toyota Land Cruiser (923 pieces).

In general, the Far East are wary of any new (especially non-Japanese origin) cars, to put it mildly - they are more likely to buy a used "Japanese" than a new "European". Even if they cost about the same. The reasons are obvious. Firstly, cars for the domestic market of Japan are very richly stocked. And secondly, the myth is rooted that they are more reliable than all others. But stereotypes are difficult to break … At the same time, in 2009, 145.3 thousand used cars were sold in the Far East - 22 times (!) More than new ones. More than half of them fell on the most popular brand here - Toyota, despite the fact that now the average transaction price in the secondary market is approaching $ 15 thousand! The most popular car on the secondary market is again the Land Cruiser (8296 units).

EVERYTHING COMPETITIONS

This cannot go on forever. All last year and the beginning of the current market, cars were being digested in large quantities exported from Japan on the eve of increasing customs duties. Since then, this type of import has declined by more than 20 (!) Times. The fleet of the region is the oldest in Russia. On the other hand, it means there are large reserves for updating it.

So far, only one car assembly plant has been opened in the entire region - since December last year, Korean SanYong cars have been assembled at the Sollers factory in Vladivostok. He occupied several Dalzavod workshops, where warships had previously been built and repaired. Today, the appetites and opportunities of sailors have become more modest, and they shared some of the unloaded areas. By the way, from the point of view of logistics, this project is unique: components arrive by sea from Korea in three days, unload them directly on the territory of the enterprise (a mooring a hundred meters from the assembly shop), then they immediately clear them up (created a post) … The government contributed to the allocation last year soft loan for the first-born of the Far Eastern automobile industry, but this project so far remains more socio-political than economic: residents of the Far East are very careful about buying products from the local automobile plant.

To get a new venture, you have to go through a competition. A place at the conveyor in a situation where most of the traditional enterprises of the city (shipbuilding, port, fishing fleet, etc.) are in a half-fainting state, and the “right-hand drive” auto business is minimized, looks not only monetary, but also quite prestigious. So far, about 500 people are involved in two shifts, and by the end of the year there will be about a thousand of them. This year, 13.2 thousand Korean off-road vehicles will be assembled in Vladivostok. The main hope of the company's leaders is for a new model, a crossover with a working index of C200. The first car will roll off the assembly line in Vladivostok already at the end of September, and two years later a full-cycle assembly will be organized here - with welding and painting.

At the same time, both the country's leaders and local authorities leave no hope to lure here the main favorites - the Japanese. It is known that the managers of the Renault-Nissan concern have already studied the possibility of organizing production in the Far East. True, they were cautious in their assessments: they say that the region has prospects, but now "it’s not the situation where you can decide on an expensive large-scale expansion into such a difficult region." However, the Governor of Primorsky Krai Sergey Darkin is ready to provide not only empty factory shops, but also tax benefits for new production. In addition, as shown by the Sollers example, local authorities undertake to pay for the training of employees of new enterprises. This is already a lot. Maybe in a few years they’ll begin to collect not used foreign cars from “designers” (it was advantageous at one time to bring cars to Russia disassembled, to clear them as customs, and then assemble them again into a single unit), but normal cars?
