Many kilometers of traffic jams have become an inevitable attribute of the city. Many people think about leaving their car only for trips to the shops and to the country, while getting to work by public transport. However, not all so simple. A trip by bus or metro is also associated with certain inconveniences and problems. In early October, representatives of the capital’s transport department met with reporters and spoke about the prospects for developing public transport. At the same time, the problems of transport, not promising, but even real ones, were discussed.

Traffic jams start with the subway

The department’s employees paid special attention to the development of the metro. By 2015, it is planned to build 50 km of metro lines. This will allow the construction of stations in remote areas. Residents of Novokosin, Zhulebin, Zyablikova will be spared the need to queue at the bus stops every morning, and then from traffic jams. Just a fairy tale.

So it is, of course, so, but not quite. Metro, like roads, reached the peak of its throughput on many branches. Trains run with such a frequency as possible, and the slightest delay leads to overcrowding of stations. There were cases when some stations were urgently closed at the entrance and worked only at the exit, as the number of arriving people increased faster than the number of departing ones. It’s like in the classical problem of a pool and two pipes - it flows from one, flows into the other.

The station in Zhulebin will be after Vykhina. And this is one of the busiest metro sections. Now the flow of people from the suburbs is dosed with traffic jams on Ryazan Avenue. And people cannot immediately find themselves in the subway. But even so, leaving Vykhin in the morning is very problematic. What happens when the load on the subway in this place increases? The metro will hit a collapse worse than what we now see on the streets. Until recently, the so-called “pushers” - specially trained people to help push people into wagons - seemed like a funny joke to us. Soon, without these specialists, our metro will also be impossible to imagine. Unfortunately, the employees of the transport department do not know what can be thought up with congestion in the subway.

Lane

More precisely, they have developments and plans, but it is not clear how feasible they are. Take at least the notorious lanes for public transport. GZR has already said that the Moscow government plans to provide special lanes for buses and trolleybuses on major highways of the capital. A similar practice in Europe has borne fruit. But we are not Europe. We have many and many questions and doubts about such measures. Firstly, and the organizers of the press conference themselves recognized this, it is not clear which band to highlight. It should be the right side, where are the stops? But how do you turn left? Should it be the middle lane to make it convenient to turn left and right? But again - what about the stops and other drivers who also need to be rebuilt? There is generally an exotic option: to highlight the left lane, but here there are so many complaints that we won’t even comment.

Or can be done as in Boston. Block the public transport lane with concrete blocks. But, as was noted at the conference, then there are still problems with turns and issues of cleaning this “concrete” strip are added.

And this is not to mention the fact that a significant part of drivers firmly declare that they wanted to choke on these lanes: “You can’t drive this way, but they’ll narrow it down. Where then?”. When this question was raised at a press conference, department heads answered that the introduced video recording system would exercise control. Having added that these bands are a matter of habit, at first they will call in, then fines will go, and in the end they will get used to them and everything will “settle down” by itself. I would like to believe that this will happen. True, thinking about what will happen on the roads is, frankly, scary.

Transport cards

The problem of buying bus tickets was also discussed. Cash desks are not everywhere. And where they are, they do not always work. About 10% of passengers are forced to buy tickets from the driver, paying a decent amount for a circle. Department staff spoke about plans to introduce a new payment system. Via a cell phone, credit card and so-called transport card.

With a cell phone, everything is clear. For contactless payment, you will need a new SIM card with a special chip. Money will be deducted from the account. Same thing with a credit card. Banks will release a special application for a credit card, with which you can pay for travel. Of particular note is the transport card. It is designed for all types of transport. It is necessary to put money on it, which will be debited for each trip on public transport, including trains.

The main issues are price indexation. Now, when buying a card for many trips, the cost of one pass is lower than if you just buy a ticket for one trip. At a press conference they said that money will be debited from the account at the end of the month. Then, indexation of prices will be carried out depending on the frequency of use of a particular mode of transport. However, many travel tickets are not sold for a month, but for 45 days, which is cheaper than a monthly travel ticket. Wouldn't it turn out to be more expensive to travel by cell phone or transport card? It is unknown, since the system is still at the testing stage.

Take the minibuses

The issue of the safety of travel by public transport and the qualifications of drivers were also discussed. The main complaints were caused by drivers of minibuses. Many motorists know firsthand how passenger Gazelles drive. Turn signals do not turn on when stopping and at the beginning of the movement, they cut on the road, ignore traffic signals. Many drivers not only cannot speak Russian, they also have no Russian rights. They decided to end this.

Now every driver of public transport, whether it is a bus or minibus, must undergo mandatory certification for professional suitability. Such an initiative of the Moscow government certainly deserves approval. The only strange thing is that all this has not been done before.

By the way

The trouble of the capital is not only that the roads can’t cope with the number of cars, but also that public transport, in general, also copes with it. In Moscow on September 22, a day without cars passed. Many kilometers of traffic jams were all the same. Not everyone here is ready to give up their car. But some drivers still went to work that day by public transport. It all ended rather deplorably. Such an influx of metro mastered with strain. Enormous queues at the ticket offices, turnstiles and on the platform led to the fact that the road to work on the subway in time turned out to be comparable to the road through traffic jams. The metro is not ready to take in even the people who are now driving. But, in principle, the dungeon contains great potential. The city authorities are sure of this.

And soon, a giant underground car park will appear in the center of the capital, where hundreds of cars will fit. It is located under the sections: Manezhnaya Square - Kamergersky Lane - Tverskaya 13, and Tverskaya Square, almost under the monument to the founder of Moscow, Yuri Dolgoruky.

According to Konstantin Korolevsky, First Deputy Head of the Department of Road Bridge and Engineering Construction of the Moscow Government, underground parking is designed for 1150 cars and with a total area of more than 50 thousand square meters. m will be divided into several sections of 300-350 parking spaces.

The start of the project is planned as part of the "Program for the development of the underground space of the capital for 2009-2011" for next year. This program provides for the construction of numerous underground parking lots, multifunctional centers, garages and pedestrian crossings in 37 underground territories.
