When I saw this green monster at the training ground, I was even taken aback - wow! Five axles, almost eleven meters long, a huge body, like a railway carriage, some incredible payload figures - such indicators fit a dump truck, and not a single car. I am not talking about large-sized career and other special equipment, which, in principle, does not allow access to public roads. And this HOWO, manufactured by the Chinese company Qingdao Turbo Machinery, with a 10x6 wheel arrangement and the traditionally unpronounceable index ZZ3537N28D7B has every right to drive on any road. Its size and curb weight do not exceed the maximum allowed.

For severe operating conditions, a margin of safety is needed more, and given that in countries with poor roads, as a rule, for some reason the attitude towards the laws is quite familiar, it is considered possible to slightly lower the passport carrying capacity, but to lay 50 or even 100% overload. The buyer remains the winner: he avoids the hassle with special permits for heavy vehicles, has less weight restrictions on the roads, but can really use the hidden features in full. And even if it falls under weight control, in Russia this problem is solved "without leaving the cash register" …

And such an assessment does not look too high: in a huge 28-cc body (and with a “cap” 33 mz altogether!) Even relatively light sand will fit 47–55 tons. But dump trucks do not only carry sand. The bottom of the body of a steel sheet with a thickness of 8 mm is clearly designed to ensure that crushed stone and rocky soil will fall from the excavator bucket, and its density is one and a half times higher. However, on closed technological roads, in quarries, etc. the gigantic lifting capacity of the pentaaxis can be used quite legally. By the way, the body here is heated by exhaust gases, but the tiny and inaccurately cut out exhaust openings in its rear part clearly do not correspond to the diameter of the engine exhaust pipe.

The HOWO is equipped with a 9.7 liter in-line six-cylinder Chinese-made Steyr-WD615.69 turbocharged and intercooled. It meets the environmental standards of Euro II, and with some refinement, Euro III. In principle, its performance is 336 hp. and 1350 N.m are very good, but, given the huge potential load capacity of the dump truck, they can be considered only minimally sufficient. Unfortunately, it was not possible to fully evaluate its traction and dynamic capabilities of the motor: the drive of the high-pressure fuel pump rack was junk.

The suspension is not balanced, as is customary on biaxial carts; here, each of the three bridges is suspended on its own pair of short and thick (10 sheets of 15 mm) springs, supplemented by jet rods. The ground clearance is almost 300 mm, there are inter-axle and inter-wheel locks - the truck often has to drive off the asphalt. In the same case, high-profile tires 12.00R20, reinforced with 18-layer steel cord.

Something reminds me of this original side glazing with a falling segment … Well, of course! This is the “Volvo” cab, which stood on trucks of the FL7, FL10 and FL12 series ten years ago! Only here the headlights moved up and the shape of the hood changed. The latter forgot to recline, raising the cab, and almost broke on the bumper. Himself, of course, is to blame, but, for example, at Scania, the hydraulic jack jack of the cab lift is fixed just under the hood - you will get it out of your mind. On such a powerful chassis, the short and low double cabin of the HW70 looks like a birdhouse: 1340 mm from asphalt to the floor! It is suspended on conventional (non-pneumatic) shock absorbers. It’s spacious inside, but only two seats, and in the middle there is a huge, half-meter high “table” of the engine compartment. Above the glass there are roomy boxes, sleeping bags, of course, no. The driver’s springless seat is electrically adjustable, the steering column also has two wide adjustments, but its latch (a regular helical wing) is not very convenient.
