"Viburnum" on such tires behaves languidly and dullly. Of course, the reactions are far from perfect - in a fast turn and in a “rearrangement” the driver is still hindered by large body rolls and delays, but the car drives more reliably, more clearly.

However, the braking distance has not changed, although the 14-inch tires break into the block more sharply. But a more distinct force on the pedals allows you to more accurately control the deceleration. Quite unexpectedly, Kalina’s ability to roll freely deteriorated - in other words, run out, which affected fuel consumption, albeit slightly. Therefore, it makes sense to think: is it worth sacrificing an extra portion of gasoline for the best behavior on the road.
185 / 55R15. These tires added Kalina attractiveness not only externally, but also in road behavior. She became sensitive, impulsive, obedient. The power steering also worked normally - in a sharp turn, you no longer have to guess at what angle the wheels are turned. But most importantly, Kalina almost impeccably tracked the given trajectory, which, of course, affected the “rearrangement”. Alas, there are no free cakes: every car felt every car on the road, every pebble - in general, thoroughly shook the soul.

However, this is not so bad - in addition, it became harder to slow down, as the car began to scour from side to side. Moreover, there was a feeling that the coupling properties of tires exceed the capabilities of standard brakes. The effort on the pedals increased, jerks appeared with intensive deceleration. Perhaps that is why the plant does not recommend changing shoes in tires of this standard size. Admirers of large wheels and low-profile tires are perhaps even more upset that the car has lost several kilometers of maximum speed. Not to mention the fact that elasticity at high speeds has become worse, appetite has grown.
Preliminary result: Kalina prefers tires recommended by the manufacturer, 13- and 14-inch ones. Moreover, the latter is the best option in terms of comfort, economy, stability and controllability.

SAAZ. Before the test, a set of new damping elements of the Skopinsky auto-aggregate plant was installed on the machine, with which new “viburnum” is now being completed. As you can see from the settings, the developers tried to improve the amorphous controllability of the Kalina, which responds with laziness even to rather sharp steering movements. With an increase in speed, the Kalina activates and looks quite vigorously at the rearrangement and in the corners. But here there is not enough speed and steering accuracy. Although we must pay tribute to the car - it behaves quite logical and expected.
Not everything is so simple with a smooth ride. If the front suspension does a good job of duty, except that it rigidly and noisily tracks small bumps, then the rear shows excessive independence. She clearly reacts more rudely to pits and potholes, carefully transferring them to the body. As a result, Kalina feels too stiff. Although the stock of energy in the suspension and so even in abundance.

"Plaza." The front suspension has become softer and more comfortable. But on gentle waves appeared imposing swing of the body, increased banks. Before turning, the car falls in the opposite direction from the bend and only then reacts to the steering wheel. At the same time, the rear shock absorbers, on the contrary, are trying to demonstrate a tough, "plazovsky" character, collecting all the little things from the road. It turns out that the axes "go" as if separately from each other, and this is great for driving. There is no comfort either - on the unevenness of the riders it still prettyly shakes.
And this is not the most annoying. In some situations, Kalina became insidious: after all, “in unison” with increased body rolls, the stiffer rear shock absorbers more actively earned. In fast corners, a tendency to skid appeared. It arises unexpectedly and develops very sharply, requiring a remarkable reaction and skill from the driver in order to return the car to the trajectory. Perhaps the manufacturer would do well to polish the characteristics. You can shift the balance in the direction of comfort, or, conversely, make the car sportier rigid. But the main thing - do not worsen the already mediocre controllability.

Who would have thought that the name "Comfort" hides an almost 50 percent increase in effort during the rebound, and the version that is closer in characteristics to the factory name was called "Standard"? However, this is the right of the manufacturer, who, by the way, promises to start mass production of such shock absorbers by spring. We were one of the first to experience the new product.
The car has become tight, resilient and, perhaps, more logical. At low speeds, he repeats the profile of the road in detail, carefully shaking the riders on irregularities that are almost invisible to the eye. But a kind of sportiness is not perceived by the body as discomfort, as the car became integral. She doesn’t swallow roughness gently with the front wheels, but she doesn’t “kick” the weighty rear riders - the suspension evenly distributes the amplitude of the body movements between the wheels. But the energy intensity is beyond praise, and at high speed, Kalina behaves stably.
The body rolls were noticeably smaller, but the rear axle, alas, “turned off” from work - in fast turns the car strives to straighten the trajectory. The same problems at the "rearrangement" - at speeds close to the limiting, the driver is prevented by the sliding of the front axle. We hope that the developers will listen to our recommendations and still conjure over the characteristics.
Despite minor flaws, the SS20 is the optimal of the three tested kits. "Kalina" with him is quite comfortable on bad roads, and with sharp maneuvers - predictable and not dangerous.
This will help to make non-standard support of the front struts, manufactured by the company "System of Technologies" (in the photo on the left, on the right - the standard support). Unlike the original part, at the Samara support the mounting point of the rack is shifted back, which is why the longitudinal inclination angle (caster) has increased. AvtoVAZ recommends no more than + 1.5 ° - after installing the tuning support, it has grown to + 2.5 °. By the way, an absolutely normal indicator for modern cars, and Kalina, he clearly fell in time. The car became clear, solid, assertive in control, which was gratifying for the top speed when performing the "rearrangement" (faster than 1.1 km / h). But most importantly, the driving experience has improved markedly - the steering wheel has become accurate and understandable.
CHECK FOR RIGIDITY
Stretching is one of the few things that we managed to get for Kalina. Apparently, is not in special demand? Our tests showed that, in contrast to the "tens", it does not make any special changes to the behavior of the car. "Kalina" only slightly increased in speed at the "rearrangement" (0.5 km / h on 14-inch tires). Conclusion: the body is quite rigid and does not need additional reinforcement.
