Before and after the capital

Surprises, pleasant and not very, were waiting at the very beginning of this journey on the Petersburg-Moscow highway. The most picturesque part of the road seemed to us in the Valday Upland, with hills densely covered with forest. At the top of one of them, behind the Vyshny Volochyok, there is a recreation area and a spring with clear water. But behind the same hills traffic cops with radars at the ready, invisible from the foot, are often on duty …

The border of the Moscow region comes across colorful villages with shopping malls stretching on both sides of the road from the beginning to the end of the villages. Moreover, there is a strict specialization in trade: in one village they sell only crystal, in another - metal utensils, in the third - stockfish, etc. Why it happened is unknown. As, however, and why the fish caught here in the Ivankovo reservoir is more expensive than in Moscow stores.

Immediately after the inscription on the bridge “108 kilometers to Moscow”, the traffic intensity noticeably increases, reaching a maximum beyond the Klin. The answer to the question whether to go around the capital along the Moscow Ring Road or along the Moscow Small Ring depends on the day of the week. If the calendar is a summer Friday or Sunday evening, when citizens leave the city or return home, it is better to stay away from Moscow. In other days, it makes sense to choose the Moscow Ring Road.

Heavy traffic persists until the Ural Mountains! Two-three-lane highway, as a rule, is clogged to the limit with trucks that drag at a speed of 50 km / h. Since they are in a tight column, it is almost impossible to overtake them.

Especially intense traffic between the capital and Vladimir.

In the Nizhny Novgorod region, the road, as if by magic, turns into a wide multi-lane "autobahn", carpeted down to the very Lower. Only here you can see round metal bulges as a dividing line, immediately responding with muffled rhythmic beats when changing lanes. The site to Nizhny Novgorod is replete with gas stations. Lots of shops and roadside cafes. An almost mandatory attribute is barbecue steaming on the grill.

Before Chuvashia, the road initially narrows to three lanes, and soon becomes two-lane. These edges are remembered primarily for the abundance of traffic inspectors.

Mountain "megalopolis"

From Cheboksary to Kazan just a stone's throw. To get to the capital of Tatarstan, you need to cross the Volga. You can take a ferry in the area of Zelenodolsk or across the bridge. The first method makes it possible to assess the width and power of the great river.

Beyond Naberezhnye Chelny, the road slowly but surely began to rise uphill, and approximately between Ufa and the city of Sim in the Chelyabinsk region, the first picturesque view of the Ural Range opened. The mountain path from Ufa to Chelyabinsk is rather narrow, the trucks barely creep, overtaking is difficult.

Traffic on this section of the highway is so intense that it’s sometimes difficult to cross the road, as if you are not in the mountains, but in the center of the metropolis. At times, many-kilometer columns line up, which is not possible to overtake because of the narrowness of the route, oncoming traffic and many turns.

Despite the fact that the height of individual peaks in this part of the Ural Mountains reaches 1800 meters, there are no steep descents and ascents, but for the most part they are very long. As a result, towards the end of such an ascent, some overloaded wagons hardly crawl at a speed of 10–20 km / h or pull each other in tow. Efforts are more than rewarded on a long descent, when you can finally ride with the breeze.

Passing Chelyabinsk on the bypass road, we moved north - towards Yekaterinburg. On a flat track with excellent coverage, 200 kilometers passed unnoticed.

Stone fairy tale

For a stone lover, the names of Ural villages, cities, and lakes sound like music - Murzinka, Emerald, Zlatoust, Talkov Kamen … It is impossible to visit the Urals and not pass through places of tales about a stone flower and a malachite box.

However, the wealth of the Urals is not limited to gems. There are many other natural attractions in this region. For example, only 17 kilometers from Yekaterinburg is the border between Europe and Asia, and only in the Urals this border is land.

Throughout the Ural Range, several dozen border signs have been established. The “youngest” of the Europe-Asia obelisks is located near the old Moscow highway linking Perm and Yekaterinburg.

Now you can get a certificate of crossing the border of Europe and Asia. Those who want to hand-mint a commemorative coin on a special old press.

Of the interesting geological objects, it is worth noting the so-called stone tents - granite rock-outcrops. Outwardly, they are monumental structures, as if made of stone mattresses or pillows. The unusual appearance gives rise to doubt their natural origin. It seems that some giants piled tents from huge hewn mattress-like plates.

And the so-called Devil's hillfort (near Iset station) 20 meters high is a vertical wall made of huge slabs. This structure rises on top of a mountain surrounded by giant pines. Since there are no other rocks in the district, it seems that this is a fragment of the destroyed fortress wall.

In the vicinity of Yekaterinburg, near the town of Sysert, there is another noteworthy place - Talkov Kamen. This lake is about 30 meters deep, which was formed on the site of a mine for the extraction of talc - a very soft, soap-like mineral of a gentle salad color. The water in the lake is of a beautiful greenish tint, and vertical rocks of silver-green talcum almost 40 meters high surround it.
